Pondo vs CoVid maliit dapat dagdagan — Solon

PINUNA ni Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo ang maliit na pondong inilaan ng gobyerno sa paglaban sa pandemyang dulot ng CoVid-19.

Aniya, kailangang dagdagan ang pondo para maka- recover ang bansa sa problemang pang-ekonomiya.

Sa privilege speech sinabi ni Quimbo, ang pondo na nagkakahalaga ng P248-bilyones ay sobrang liit kompara sa P838.4 bilyon kasama ang P590 bilyon para sa massive infrastructure projects.

“This amount is very miniscule compared to how big our losses are. It’s as if we are only giving a paracetamol to cure a deadly illness like cancer. The country cannot recover from the pandemic and successive typhoons if we have this kind of funds for disasters,” ani Quimbo.

Sa panukalang isinumite ng kongresista ng Marikina, kasama sina Minority lider Abang Lingkod party-list Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano, iginiit ang karagdagang P400 bilyon para sa “social amelioration program, rehabilitate areas damaged by natural calamities, sustain delivery of basic goods and services, implement high-impact infrastructure projects, assist businesses to keep them afloat, and bring the economy back on the right track.”

Kasama sa panukala ang pag-utos sa National Economic Development Authority na gumawa ng matatag na “long-term plan” para sa mga susunod na pandemya at bagyo.

Nakasaad rin sa panukala ang pag-utos sa NEDA na tingnan muli ang Flood Management Master Plan for Metro Manila at sa mga karatig na bayan.

“The road to resilience of the Philippine economy is long and possibly winding. We must take the first step now,” she insisted. “If businesses are subsidized, then we can help minimize the risk of job loss for workers,” ayon kay Quimbo. (GERRY BALDO)
