WALANG kaduda-dudang mabibigo si Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) commander at National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) spokesman Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade, Jr., sa layuning takutin ang media sa pamamagitan ng red-tagging sa mga mamamahayag.
Tiniyak ito ng National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) kasunod ng akusasyon ni Parlade na na-infiltrate na ng mga rebeldeng komunista ang hanay ng media.
“But if Parlade thinks to intimidate media, including senior colleagues, with slander based on what amount to nothing but rumor and outright lies, there is no doubt Parlade will fail. The independent Philippine media are not called independent for nothing,” anang NUJP sa isang kalatas.
Ayon sa NUJP, base sa legal system, ang obligasyon na maglabas ng katibayan ay nasa nag-aakusa pero hanggang ngayon, puro kahambugan ang nakikita pero walang ebidensiyang inilalabas sa kanyang red-tagging si Parlade sa ilang mga organisasyon, artista, mambabatas, at media.
“In our legal system, the burden of proof rightly lies on the accuser. So far, the only proof we have seen is a lot of hot air,” sabi ng NUJP.
Sa panayam sa The Chiefs sa One News noong Lunes (Oktubre 26), inamin ni Parlade na natatalo sa propaganda war ang militar dahil matagal nang infiltrated ng mga rebeldeng komunista ang media kaya maraming media personalities ang ‘tumitira’ sa kanila.
Sinabi ng heneral na nasa management level na ng media outfits ang mga dating kasapi ng College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEFP) at League of Filipino Students (LFS) at ngayo’y kasapi na ng National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).
“This is, however, the first time the good general has cast his broad red-tagging brush on the media industry as a whole, and on senior news managers who he, of course, does not name, thereby painting a virtual target on everyone who mans the country’s newsdesks and newsrooms. He has, in effect, slandered the whole industry,” anang NUJP.
Matatandaan, ilang beses nang inakusahan ng security officials ang NUJP bilang kaalyadong organisasyon ng mga rebeldeng komunista.
