Harris sa PH indikasyon ng US support vs China

MALINAW, na tanda ng pagsuporta ng Estados Unidos sa Filipinas ang pagbisita ni Vice President Kamala Harris sa territorial dispute ng bansa laban sa China.

               Inihayag ito ni Cagayan de oro 2^nd district Rep. Rufuz Rodriguez nitong Lunes, 21 Nobyembre kaugnay ng pagbisita ni Harris, ang pinakamataas na opisyal ng Estados Unidos na bumisita sa bansa. 

“We welcome Vice President Kamala Harris. We thank the United States for supporting our sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in accordance with the International Arbitral Award in July 2016,” ani Rodriguez.

Ayon sa mambabatas, bago pa man dumating si Harris ay sinabi na ng US na sila ay may “commitment to stand with our Philippine ally in upholding the rules-based international maritime order in the South China Sea, supporting maritime livelihoods and countering illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing.”

Aniya, ang pangako ng Estados Unidos ay tugma sa hangarin ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., na isulong ang code of conduct sa South China Sea at sa West Philippine Sea na dapat respetohin ng China.

Nakatakdang bumiyahe patungong Palawan si Harris upang makipag-ugnayan sa mga residente at mga mangingisda roon.

Bago kay Harris, bumisita noong Agosto si State Secretary Anthony Blinken.

Ayon kay Blinken, ang 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty sa pagitan ng  US at Filipinas ay pagaganahin kung aatake ang China.

“An armed attack on Philippine armed forces, public vessels and aircraft will invoke the US mutual defense commitments under that treaty. The Philippines is an irreplaceable friend, partner and ally to the United States,” ani Blinken.

“A code of conduct is the way to go forward to peacefully and amicably resolve territorial disputes among countries in the region,” ani Rodriguez.
