HARD TALK

MAKULAY ang buhay ng isang Marcos Mamay. Sa politika. Sa pelikula.
Mayor.
One of his defining moments ang taon.
His inspiring journey is captured in Mamay: A Journey to Greatness, directed by Neal “Buboy” Tan. The film chronicles his rise from hardship to leadership, with Mamay himself serving as assistant director to ensure an authentic portrayal of Maranao culture and traditions.
The film became a standout at the 73rd FAMAS Awards, winning five major prizes—including Best Supporting Actor for Jeric Raval, Best Production Design, Best Musical Score, Best Original Song, and Best Cinematography—along with two special recognitions: Film Producer of the Year for Mamay Productions and a Presidential Award for Mamay himself. It has since been endorsed by the Department of Education and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos for school screenings.
His biopic extended its award-winning run this year, with its theme song Hamon—composed by Vehnee Saturno, produced by Mamay, and performed by Gerald Santos—winning Indie Movie Theme Song of the Year at the 41st PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
Dagdag pa rito, Mamay was honored as Outstanding Producer and Media Advocate of the Year at the 37th PMPC Star Awards for Movies, further highlighting his influence as a creative producer and advocate for impactful media work.
Sa taong ito, another personal milestone para kay Mamay ang ginanap, nang ilunsad ang kanyang inspirational book entitled Pugilist—a word that means “fighter.” The book reflects Mamay’s life philosophy as a fighter in every sense: a man who continues to stand strong through adversity, challenges and the demands of both public service and creative work. Through Pugilist, he shares lessons on perseverance, discipline, leadership and resilience drawn from his own life journey.
Sa pagtatapos ng kanyang banner year, Mayor Mamay recently led a successful joint celebration of his showbiz, political and literary achievements na ginanap sa Music Box (in Timog), na dinaluhan ng mga pinagpipitaganang panauhin mula sa politika at pelikula.
Dumalo sa pagtitipon ang celebrities at directors, the cast of Mamay: A Journey to Greatness, the staff and crew of Mamay Productions, Entertainment PRESS, politicians, close friends and family.
As adviser to the Actors Guild of the Philippines, he champions more opportunities for Mindanao-based artists, believing that culture and cinema are powerful tools for education, peace and unity.
Marami pa. Bukod sa filmmaking, Mamay also produces concerts and coffee table books. His upcoming ventures under Mamay Productions include films such as OFW, One Life to Live, and Babae sa Salamin, with the Mangyan-themed film starring Ejay Falcon marking a significant addition to his mission of empowering artists and promoting meaningful Filipino stories.
On Mamay Productions’ mission, he explains: “With Mamay Productions, our goal is simple yet powerful: to provide opportunities for artists, uplift the local film industry, and share meaningful Filipino stories that educate, entertain, and inspire audiences both here and abroad.
“Year 2025 has been an overwhelming blessing. Mamay was created from the heart of my journey, and seeing it receive recognition—while stepping into a new national role—is something I will always be grateful for. These honors remind me that whether in governance or in film, the purpose remains the same: to inspire, to uplift and to make a difference.
“Stories have power. Good governance has power. When both come together, they can move people toward hope and resilience. I’m proud of what we accomplished this year, and even more excited for what we will build next.”
Before his election to the VMLP, Mamay served three transformative terms as mayor of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte. His administration delivered major infrastructure developments, advanced peace-building efforts, and elevated Nunungan from a third-class to a first-class municipality—achievements that continue to define his leadership.
