NAGBITIW sa puwesto si House Speaker Martin Romualdez kahapon sa gitna ng kontrobersiyang bumabalot sa Kamara de Representantes patungkol sa “flood control scam.”

“I step down not in surrender, but in service,” ani Romualdez sa kanyang talumpati sa session hall ng kamara.

Anang speaker, nagbitiw siya para bigyang- daan ang imbestigasyon sa kontrobersiya sa kamara.

“I stand before you today with utmost humility, and with deep gratitude for the trust and confidence you have accorded me. That trust has been the source of my strength in every day of service,” ani Romualdez.

Napaiyak ang ibang empleyado ng kamara.

Aniya, buo ang suporta niya sa panawagan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., para magkaroon ng “accountability” sa mga kontrobersiya sa flood control projects na hinihinalang sangkot ang ilang kongresista.

Inako ni Romualdez na naging mabigat sa kanyang liderato ang mga alegasyon sa “infrastructure projects.”

“The longer I stay, the heavier that burden grows — on me, this House, and the President I have always sought to support,” aniya.

“Today, with a full heart and a clear conscience, I tender my resignation as Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
