Libreng wi-fi sa public schools hiling sa telcos

NANAWAGAN si Senadora Grace Poe sa telecommunications companies (telcos) na pagkalooban ng libreng wi-fi ang mga pampublikong paaralan bilang tulong sa mga mag-aaral at mga guro.

Iginiit ni Poe, dapat magtulungan ang Department of Information and Communication Technology (DITC) at ang Department of Education (DepEd) upang matiyak na magkaroon ng koneksiyon ang mga paaralan lalo sa mga remote area.

“At a time when the education of our children relies on connectivity, access to the free internet is a crucial need that telcos can help provide,” ani Poe sa katatapos na budget deliberations.

               “What to telcos could be a drop in the bucket can go a long mile for the efficient learning of our students,” giit ni Poe, Chairman ng  Senate committee on  public services.

Natuklasan ni Poe na mahigit 69 porsiyento ng 45,000 pampublikong paaralan ang mayroong gamit ng wi-fi.

“It’s unimaginable for a big population of students not to have access to wi-fi especially now when we are saying that online education has become part of the new normal,” dagdag ni Poe.

Nanindigan si Poe, kawawa ang mga taong walang kakayahan o kapasidad na gumastos ng salapi para sa kanilang reaserch.

Pinagsusumite ni Poe ang DepEd ng kanilang ulat ukol sa lagay ng connectivity sa mga pampublikong paaralan upang malaman ang lugar na nangangailangan ng internet access.

Gagamitin ng senador ang datos sa kanyang pag-presenta sa panukalang 2024 budget ng DITC.

Umaasa si Poe, papayag ang mga telcos na makipagtulungan sa pamahalaan para sa isang digitalization program.

“We believe telcos will always heed the challenge to do more for the worthwhile goal of inclusive, quality education,” pagwawakas ni  Poe. (NIÑO ACLAN)
