MANILA — Nakamit ni Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., ang ninth place honors sa 30th FIDE World Senior Individual Chess Championship 2022 (50+ and 65+ Open-men and women) na ginanap sa Hotel Cenacolo sa Assisi, Umbria, Italy nitong Sabado, 26 Nobyembre.
Nakakolekta ang 13-time Philippine Open champion Antonio ng 7.5 points mula sa six wins, three draws at two losses para maiuwi ang ninth place purse € 700 euro.
Tangan ang disadvantageous black pieces, ang 60-anyos Calapan, Oriental Mindoro native na si Antonio na suportado ang kampanya ng Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, San Miguel Corporation, at sina Sen. Bong Go at Dr. Joe Balinas ay nakipaghatian ng puntos kay WGM Elvira Berend ng Luxembourg.
Si Berend ay Kazakhstan-born Luxembourg chess player, may tangan na FIDE title Woman Grandmaster. Siya ay three-time Luxembourg Chess Championship winner at two-time World Senior Chess Championship winner.
Naisukbit ni Top seed GM Zurab Sturua ng Georgia ang korona na may naipong 8.5 points mula sa seven wins, three draws at loss sa 50 and over division.
Nakopo ni Sturua ang championships trophy at Gold medal plus ang top prize € 2,400 euro dahil sa mas mataas na tiebreak points par magkasya si GM Maxim Novik ng Lithunia sa second place at makontento sa € 2,000 euro at Silver medal.
Nakuha ni GM Ivan Morovic Fernandez ng Chile ang Bronze medal plus € 1,800 euro matapos manguna sa grupo ng 8.0 pointers kasama sina GM Vladislav Nevednichy ng Romania (fourth, € 1, 500), GM Klaus Bischoff ng Germany (fifth,€ 1, 200 ) at IM Fabrizio Bellia ng Italy (sixth, € 1, 000).
Pasok sa 14 places ay sina GM Milos Pavlovic ng Serbia (seventh, € 900), GM Frank Holzke ng Germany (eight, € 800), IM Uffe Vinter-Schou ng Denmark (tenth, € 600), GM Eric Prie ng France (eleventh, € 500), GM Dejan Antic ng Serbia (twelve, € 400, twelfth), IM William Paschall ng USA (€ 300, thirteenth) at WGM Berend (€ 200, fourteenth).
Napanalunan din ni WGM Berend ang Women 50+ award plus € 1,200, Trophy at Gold medal.
Ang iba pang Filipino entries ay sina International Master Angelo Abundo Young (26th places, 50 and over division) at FIDE Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad (35th places, 65 over category).
Si GM Dr. John Nunn ng England ang namayani sa 65 over category para sa gold medal na may 9.0 points.
Nasungkit ni GM Jose Luis Fernandez Garcia ng Spain (8.5 points) ang silver habang nagkasya si GM Nikolay A. Legky ng France (8.5 points) sa bronze medal sa FIDE 11-Round Swiss competition. (MARLON BERNARDINO)
