Spokesperson ni Romualdez umupak vs ‘tsismis’ na ‘name-dropping’ una sa Senate Probe

MAYNILA — Binatikos nitong Miyerkoles ni dating Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez ang mga ulat na nag-uugnay sa kanya sa umano’y pagbili ng ari-arian gamit ang pamilya Discaya bilang ‘front’.

Ayon sa kanyang abogado, walang kinalaman o kaalaman ang dating Speaker sa nasabing deal at tinawag itong “outright baseless”.

“With reference to recent news reports linking former Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez to the Discayas through an alleged property purchase, Rep. Romualdez has no knowledge nor involvement in the purported transaction,” pahayag ni Atty. Ade Fajardo, legal counsel at spokesperson ni Romualdez.

Ayon kay Fajardo, hindi kailanman nakatagpo ni Romualdez ang mga Discaya. “Rep. Romualdez has not met the Discayas and has only heard of them based on what is being said in media reports. As such, the claim in the report about using the Discayas as a front in a property purchase is outright baseless,” ani Fajardo.

Ang paglilinaw na ito ay ginawa bago ang pagpapatuloy ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee inquiry na nakatakda sa 19 Enero 2026.

Sinabi ni Fajardo na mahalagang mailagay sa record ang mga naging pahayag na ibinigay “clearly and unequivocally” under oath.

Binigyang-diin niya ang sworn testimony ni businessman Curlee Discaya sa House of Representatives noong Setyembre 2025.

Sa kanyang testimony, sinabi ni Mr. Discaya: “Gusto ko lang pong linawin na wala po akong direktang transaksiyon. Hindi po ako nagkaroon ng kahit anong klaseng transaksiyon kay Speaker Martin Romualdez.”

Ipinaliwanag ni Fajardo na ayon kay Discaya, ang pangalan ng dating Speaker ay sadyang “name-drop” lamang ng ibang tao nang wala siyang kinalaman. “This sworn testimony is part of the official congressional record and directly contradicts the insinuations now being revived in public discourse,” sabi ni Fajardo.

“Allegations cannot override testimony given under oath. Facts cannot be replaced by speculation.”

Ginamit din ni Fajardo ang naging pahayag ni Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson upang ipakita na ebidensiya ang dapat mangibabaw.

“Noise does not convict. Neither does it indict even who may be perceived as the most guilty in the… flood control project saga. Only evidence does,” ayon sa quote ni Lacson.

Bilang pagtatapos, sinabi ni Fajardo na inirerespeto ni Romualdez ang mga proseso ng batas. “Rep. Martin Romualdez respects institutional processes and is confident that any fair and evidence-based inquiry will ultimately prove him right,” pagtatapos ni Fajardo.
