Bakit hindi video on demand (VOD)?
“Hello, mga ka-pista! We are reading all your comments and suggestions online, and we are doing everything we can to make #PPP4SamaAll a seamless and memorable virtual cinema experience for everyone.
“A lot of you are asking….”Why livestreaming and not video-on-demand (VOD) ang naging setup for the full length films?
“You see, our licensing agreement with producers is on a “festival screening basis”, meaning we agreed on a set number of screenings per film that we could program throughout the entire festival run. This licensing arrangement is typical in film festivals all over the world and is not unique to PPP.
“This kind of setup is to ensure that our agreement with the producers/distributors does not go in conflict with the video-on-demand rights that distributors offer to commercial streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon, etc.
“Ang goal ng mga festivals like PPP is to actually be able to promote the featured films especially the premium selection, para mas tumaas ang commercial value nito, magcreate ng publicity through reviews, word of mouth, at sa mismong pagtangkilik ninyo para mapansin ng mga distribution platforms at iacquire ang mga pelikula sa mga platforms nila.
“While the livestream format is not what you’re used to, it can still give you an amazing viewing experience because, EACH DAY, you have access to up to 24 different films across the four virtual cinematheques on the fdcpchannel.ph on a scheduled screening setup– 12noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm and 10pm (exact time varies). Plus, we ensured that each film will be screening 4-6 times for the whole run, with weekend and prime times for better access to our audience.
“Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is a government-run festival and we are doing our best to create a fun-filled virtual festival experience para sa inyo not just through the film screenings but also through our exclusive events –PPP Talkback sessions, Film Talks, lectures, and more events. And while we are doing all these for you ka-pista, sana samahan nyo kami sa goal na matulungan ang industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino na talagang naapektuhan dahil sa pandemya.
