NILAGDAAN na ni Pangulong Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III ang Proclamation Numbers 807, 808, 809, 810, 811 at 812 na nagdedeklara bilang National Artists kina Alice Reyes – Dance; Francisco Coching (Posthumous) – Visual Arts; Cirilo Bautista – Literature; Francisco Feliciano – Music; Ramon Santos – Music; at Jose Maria Zaragoza (Posthumous) – Architecture, Design and Allied Arts.
Sinabi ni Communications Sec. Sonny Coloma, nakatakdang igawad ang nasabing Order of the National Artist sa itinakdang panahon.
Habang hindi napasama ang artistang si Nora Aunor na malakas ang panawagan ng mga tagasuporta na gawing National Artist.
Ang Order of National Artists ay pinakamataas na pagkilala sa mga alagad ng sining, musika at panitikan.
“The Order of National Artists was established under Proclamation No. 1001, s. 1972 to give appropriate recognition and prestige to Filipinos who have distinguished themselves and made outstanding contributions to Philippine arts and letters. It is the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts and letters,” ani Coloma.
“The President will confer the Order of the National Artist in an appropriate ceremony.”
