The SM Foundation, in partnership with the Quezon City Schools Division Office, inaugurated the Schools Division Office (SDO) Wellness Center for Teachers & Employees, a facility designed to promote the health and well-being of teachers and staff in the city.
The foundation refurbished the center to create a relaxing atmosphere and provide them with a safe and comfortable space to prioritize their health and access various services that support their overall wellbeing.
Department of Education (DepEd) Quezon City Schools Division Superintendent Carleen Sedilla, CESO V, emphasized the key role of teachers as education frontliners, highlighting the need to prioritize their physical and emotional well-being. “If you give to teachers, they will give their best to learners. If teachers are happy, they will pass on this happiness to learners,” she said.
“Teachers are the heartbeat of our education system. We often hear the phrase, ‘Teacher lang,’ but at DepEd, we say, ‘Teacher sila.’ They are our human capital developers, shaping the future workforce and driving national progress,” Sedilla shared, delivering the speech on DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara’s behalf.
SM Foundation Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs Connie Angeles, noted that the wellness center would not only enhance the health of teachers but also inspire them to deliver quality education: “Taking care of our teachers will allow them to take care of themselves, thereby inspiring them to give their best to others through the effective and efficient delivery of quality education.”
Located near SM City North Edsa, the wellness center is primarily intended for teachers and non-teaching personnel of the Quezon City SDO. However, it also extends its services to nearby community residents, ensuring that more individuals benefit from the facility.
The establishment of the QC Teachers & Employees Wellness Center underscores the commitment of SM Foundation and the Schools Division Office to recognize the invaluable contributions of teachers in shaping the future of society.
SM Foundation is set to turnover two other health centers in Quezon City. To date, SM Foundation has established and renovated more than 200 Wellness Centers, serving over six million patients nationwide.
