INIHAYAG ni Senadora Cynthia Villar ang pagdaraos ng 9th OFW and Family Summit sa darating na Martes, 12 Nobyembre, na gaganapin sa World Trade Center sa Pasay City.
Sa isang panayam kay Villar muli nilang inaasahan ang libo-libong overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at kanilang beneficiaries ang daragsa sa Hall D ng World Trade Center tulad sa nakalipas na mga taon.
“My family and many OFWs always look forward to this event because it has evolved into an occasion where OFWs and their families gather and interact with private and government institutions for concerns ranging from access to financial services, social benefits, legal assistance, among others,” ani Villar.
Ang naturang summit ay mayroong temang “Kabuhayan sa Sariling Bayan” na naglalayong magkaroon ng sariling kabuhayan at pagkakakitaan sa ating bansa ang OFWs o pamilya nila upang sa ganoon ay hindi na mangingibansang bansa pang muli.
Kabilang sa tatalakayin ang financial literacy para sa OFWs upang sa ganoon ay makatulong ito upang mapalago ang perang kinita ng OFWs mula sa ibang bansa.
Sinamahan ni Susan “Toots” Ople ng Ople Training Center si Villar, director ng Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG), sa idinaos na press conference.
“Aside from teaching our OFWs how to wisely invest their savings and grow their income, it is equally important to educate them how to protect their hard-earned money and how not to fall victims of human trafficking, illegal recruitment and investment scams,” dagdag ni Villar.
