MARIING umapela ang Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) nitong Huwebes, sa mga pasahero na makipagtulungan sa ahensiya sa pagpapatupad ng security enhancement sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)
Ito ay kasunod ng babala ng United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sa travel advisory na ang security measures sa NAIA ay substandard.
“(We) strongly appeal to all to cooperate with the security enhancement that we are now undertaking and submit themselves to security inspections when warranted,” ayon kay MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal sa press conference nitong Huwebes.
“Standards are there so the global aviation community will have a common reference point, and it is highly important that our aviation security protocols in NAIA meet if not exceeded, this is our obligation, and shall remain our commitment to the traveling public,” dagdag niya.
Ani Monreal, ang security measures sa loob ng airport “are not intended to put burden on the passengers” kundi matiyak ang kaligtasan ng lahat.
Sa nasabing press conference, tiniyak din ni Monreal sa mga biyahero na ang Department of Transportation (DOTr), Office for Transportation Security (OTS), at MIAA ay patuloy na tatalima sa “internationally accepted security protocols and standards.”
Ipinunto niyang ang pangambang inihayag ng DHS ay hindi dapat magdulot ng pagkaalarma dahil patuloy itong tinutugunan ng MIAA.
“All points raised by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) auditors have either been addressed or are in the process of being addressed, there’s no cause for alarm given as we put in place security enhancement following the recommendations of the US TSA,” pahayag ni Monreal.
“There’s nothing among these recommendations that cannot be addressed, kaya po natin ‘to (we can do this),” aniya.
Sa DHS advisory, ang lahat ng airlines na nag-iisyu ng tickets para sa biyahe sa pagitan ng US at Maynila, ay inatasang abisohan ang mga pasahero sa pamamagitan ng sulat, hinggil sa hindi sapat na security measures sa NAIA.
Ang DHS ang nangangasiwa sa “aviation and border security” at naatasang tiyakin ang seguridad ng US mula sa mga banta.
