Nabasa namin sa Facebook Account ni Direk Jun Lana na ”Cinemalaya, you’re supposed to be on the side of the Filipino filmmaker”.
After all the support we’ve given. Sorry pero bastusan na ito.
“Dear audiences: we devoted our careers to make films for YOU. Until the Cinemalaya films are taken down pls help us by NOT downloading them,” tweet pa niya.
Post naman ni Direk Aloy Adlawan sa kanyang Facebook Account: ”Apparently, I’m not the only one shaken up, unable to sleep with this Cinemalaya fiasco. My heart really broke when I saw more than 20 of our Cinemalaya films from the past 2 years uploaded on Youtube in some staff’s personal channel, which were supposedly uploaded from the Cinemalaya website without our consent. I don’t know how Cinemalaya can undo this ‘crime’ specially if these films had already been downloaded. Rape and Massacre are the two words that come to mind right now.#CinemalayaCrimes”
May post naman sa Cinemalaya Foundation na nasa Facebook. Galing ito kay Cultural Center of the Philippines Culture and Arts officer Minda Casagan.
“Only half an hour ago we got wind of the fact that Cinemalaya films were uploaded by Janssen Agbada, technical personnel of the Cinemalaya website yesterday. We apologize for this situation which we had no idea of nor were we aware of what or who caused or gave instruction for her to upload the films. Please rest assured we have reached Janssen already and we will make sure her YouTube account will be disabled or shut down to avoid further damage. Again, our apologies for this situation…”
Noong naturang awards night ay balak umanong magprotesta at ‘wag kunin ang tropeo ng Cinemalaya pero nanaig pa rin ang respeto.
Mababasa pa rin sa post sa Facebook Account ni Direk Adlawan, na ”Sa gutom ko, hilo at stress during the ceremony, naiuwi ko ‘yong Balanghai trophy, which we’re supposed to return pala to the staff so that they could print our names on it. Or maybe I was just paranoid na kunin sa akin ‘yong trophy at mai-upload sa Youtube. But seriously, it has been a rollercoaster of emotions since last night’s fiasco. Some people suggested that we use the venue of the awards night to protest and not accept the awards but that would be even more unfair to all those who worked hard on their films. (For the record, nobody gave up their Balanghai in protest.) While I am still reeling from the uploading of our films without our consent, I now think this is an opportunity for all the Cinemalaya filmmakers to unite and dwell on real issues confounding a festival that we love and we built. (I personally have been part of it 4 times in its 10 years since Batch 1 with my film Roomboy.) The problems in the past have been drummed down because personalities clashing became bigger than the issues. And sitting down to discuss and resolve the issues have never been efficiently facilitated to carry out genuine reforms. There is a great wall now dividing the Cinemalaya leadership and the filmmakers what with the recent Youtube fiasco. Which gives us all the perfect opportunity to assemble. Direk Francis Xavier Pasioncapped the awards night best during his speech after Bwaya won Best Film for New Breed: Cinemalaya should respect the Filmmakers and the Filmmakers should respect Cinemalaya. I’d like to add a little more to it, Cinemalaya Filmmakers should respect each other. The future of Cinemalaya starts here.”
