Madalas na patrolya sa WPS ng US FON ops hadlang sa dayuhang intsik — Solon

NANAWAGAN ang isang mataas na opisyal ng Mababang Kapulu­ngan ng Kongreso sa pamahalaang Joe Biden na dalasan ang pag­papa­trolya sa West Philippine Sea para hadlangan ang paglusob ng mga barkong pangisda ng Tsina.

Ayon kay Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, ang madalas na freedom of navigation (FON) operations ng Estados Unidos sa South China Sea at sa West Philippine Sea ay malaking hadlang sa mga barko ng Tsina.

Ginawa ni Rodriguez ang apela matapos lumabas ang report ng US Navy na isa sa mga carrier strike groups nito ay pumasok South China Sea noong 4 Abril sa gitna ng masinsinang protesta ng Filipinas sa presensiya ng daang-daang barko ng Tsina sa Julian Felipe Reef na nasa loob ng 200-mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Filipinas.

Ani Rodriguez, ang pagdaan ng US Navy noong 4 Abril ay pangalawa ngayong taon.

“Two FON patrols in more than three months. They should criss-cross that area more often to challenge China’s claim over most of the South China Sea, including international waters and a large part of the Philippine EEZ,” ani Rodriguez.

Ayon kay Rodriguez, ang pagsasagawa ng madalas na FON operations “is walking the talk on the part of our defense treaty ally, the US.”

“They should support their statements of support for the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea dispute with actual actions on the ground,” dagdag ng mambabatas.

Giit ng mataas na miyembro ng Kamara, ang madalas na pagdaan ng mga barko ng Amerika ay isang malaking hadlang sa patuloy na paghimasok ng mga Intsik sa Philippine EEZ.

“That would also show the readiness of the United States to come to the aid of the Philippines in case of conflict as provided under the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty between the two countries,” aniya.

Nanawagan si Rodriguez sa Amerika na maglabas ng mariing pahayag sa isyu ng panghihimasok ng Tsina sa West Philippine Sea.

“Professions of support for Manila in very general language no longer suffice and are just being ignored by the party to which they are directed. There has to be a more direct statement or a warning that the other party will understand,” ani Rodriguez.
