200 solons pumirma sa manifesto (Para kay Cayetano)

MAY kabuuang  200 miyembro ng House of Representatives ang pumirma sa isang manifesto na nagpapakita ng kanilang suporta kay House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano sa gitna ng planong pagpatalsik sa kanya pabor kay Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

“Following the President’s call for the individual members of the House of Representatives to vote freely and without reservation on who we wish to lead this chamber, we the undersigned hereby manifest our full and unequivocal support for the continued leadership of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano,”  giit ng mga mambabatas sa manifesto na inilabas ni Majority Leader Martin Romualdez.

Ang manifesto ay inilabas matapos ibandera ni Velasco na mayroon siyang 186 boto mula sa ibang House members, at nanumpa bilang Speaker sa kanilang sesyon na ginanap sa Celebrity Sports Complex nitong Lunes, 12 Oktubre 2020.

Sinabi ng kampo ni Velasco, ang 186 boto ay bumubuo sa majority ng 297 miyembro ng House, pero ang 200 miyembro na lumagda sa manifesto para kay Cayetano ay nagpapatunay na ang majority ay nanatili pa rin sa House Speaker.

Sa pagpirma sa manifesto, ang 200 mambabatas ay nagsasabing idinedeklara nila ang kanilang “common desire to heed the call of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the entire nation for the swift passage of the 2021 National Budget that is relevant and responsive to the needs of our people as we face this crossroads of history.”

Cayetano and the leadership of the House of Representatives for unity and cooperation among our colleagues in all priority legislation that are in line with the efforts of the Duterte administration in combating the CoVid-19 pandemic and providing a safe, prosperous, and comfortable life for all,” sabi ng 200 nakapirmang mambabatas.

Sinabi ng mga mambabatas, naniniwala sila na ang pagre-resign ni Cayetano bilang Speaker noong 30 Setyembre ay tumapos na sa term-sharing agreement sa pagitan niya at ni Velasco, at pagtatalaga muli sa kanya ng nakararaming miyembro.

“We therefore call on Congressman Velasco to respect the collective desire of his peers to allow the continuation of Speaker Cayetano’s exemplary leadership,” pahayag sa manifesto.

Pinasalamatan ng 200 mambabatas ang Presidente sa kanyang “valiant attempts… to resolve the matter amicably among the parties concerned” pero sinuway ni Velasco, tumangging pagbigyan ang hiling ng Presidente na hayaan si Speaker Cayetano na tapusin muna ang pagpasa sa budget hanggang Disyembre 2020 bago magpalit ng liderato.

Sinabi ng majority na ang kanilang commitment ay sa mamamayan — “to do what is right and stand up for the honor” — hindi lamang kay Cayetano kundi sa buong House: “We forge this agreement with you, our fellow citizens, to uphold your best interest against the pressures of partisan politics and personal interests.”
