Sonny Parsons, famous frontman of the disco group, Hagibis, and credited for popularizing the songs “Lalake,” “Legs,” and “Katawan,” died of a heart attack this Sunday, May 10, while he was on his way to Lemery, Batangas, riding in a motorcycle.
Former VST & Co. band member Manuel Rigor paid a short tribute to Sonny on his Facebook account.
“Ride free, Sonny Parsons,” he averred. “We had good, and bad times. Salamat sa mga alaala, lakay. You will be missed. So sad.”
Actress Vivian Velez posted a photo of the OPM legend in his iconic cowboy look.
“Another Legend of OPM’s Pinoy Discorama… REST IN PEACE Senyor Sonny Parsons of HAGIBIS,” she asseverated. “Ride to paradise my friend [praying hands emoji]”
Matatandaang nagawang mag-crossover ni Sonny from music and acting to politics.
Ang huling television appearance ni Sonny was in the year 2017 by way of the Coco Martin series, Ang Probinsyano.

Looking back, naitatag ang Hagibis in early 1979, with Sonny Parsons, Bernie Fineza, Mike Respall, Joji Garcia, and Mon Picazzo as its original members.
Ang Hagibis ay Pinoy counterpart ng American music group na Village People na nagpasikat ng mga awiting “Y.M.C.A.,” “In The Navy,” at “Macho Man.”
