UMALMA ang National Union of Students of the Philippines sa pahayag ni Ronald Cardema ng National Youth Commission (NYC) na tanggalan ng scholarship ang mga estudyanteng sumasali sa mga kilos protesta laban sa pamahalaan.
Ayon sa NUSP, walang karapatan si Cardema na supilin ang mga estudyanteng nagpoprotesta laban sa maling patakaran ng administrasyon, malawakang paglabag sa karapatang pantao at ang matinding kahirapan sa bansa.
Anila dapat nang sibakin si Cardema.
Nauna nang kinondena si Cardema sa pagtawag sa mga aktibista bilang kaaway ng estado na dapat ilikida ng mga death squad ng Pangulong Duterte.
Ayong kay NUSP deputy secretary general Raoul Manuel si Cardema ay parang ang punong malupit na si Pangulong Duterte.
“Copying his boss Duterte, the NYC chairperson acts like a tyrant so insecure that he attacks our right to free expression enshrined in the Constitution just to silence Duterte critics and muzzle ordinary citizens,” ani Manuel.
Giit ng mga estudyante, ang protesta ay isang uri ng freedom of expression na nakasaad sa Saligang Batas at ang libreng edukasyon ay produkto ng malawakang paghimok at protesta na ibigay sa mga estudyante at hindi regalo mula sa Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
“While not being part of those efforts, Cardema now has the gall to recommend that student protesters be disqualified from financial assistance. He is the best youth model of being ‘epal,” ayon kay Manuel.
“Students continue to protest because amidst free public education, majority of students in senior high school and college still suffer from expensive tuition and other fees which increase annually. To our shock, the NYC chairperson just wants these students to shut up and suffer in silence,” panaghoy ni Manuel.
Sa panig ni Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin, ang pahayag ni Cardema ay pagtraydor sa kuwalipikasyon ng isang lingkod bayan.
“Free tertiary education is now a matter of right under RA 10931 given to all students, not just a select few regardless of political views,” ayon kay Villarin.
Ang pananaw ni Cardema ay nagpapakita ng kanyang pagkamangmang.
Ani Villarin isang uri ng “betrayal of public trust” ang nagawa ni Cardema.
“It’s high time that we demand for his resignation,” aniya.
