Rappler’s registration kinansela ng SEC

IGINAGALANG ng Palasyo ang de-sisyon ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) na kanselahin ang certificate of registration ng online news site Rappler dahil hindi mga Fi-lipino ang mayorya ng may-ari nito.

“We respect the SEC decision that Rappler, the strict requirements of the law, that the ownership and the management of mass media entities must be wholly-owned by Filipinos,” sabi ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque.

Giit ni Roque, may kapangyarihan ang SEC na alamin ang legalidad ng mga korporasyon sa ating bansa.

Maaari aniyang gawin ng Rappler ang lahat ng diskarteng legal hanggang magkaroon ng pinal na desisyon sa usapin.

“Rappler may wish to exhaust all available legal remedies until the decision becomes final,” ani Roque.

Sa inilabas na pasya ng SEC kahapon, nakasaad na nilabag ng Rappler ang Foreign E-quity Restriction of the Philippine Constitution, nagsasaad na “(t)he ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens.”

Nauna rito, hiniling ni Solicitor General Jose Ca-lida sa SEC noong 14 Dis-yembre 2016 na imbestigahan ang Rappler Inc. at Rappler Holdings Corporation “for any possible contravention of the strict requirements of the 1987 Constitution.”

WALANG kinalaman ang isyu ng press freedom sa pasya ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) na kanselahin ang certificate of registration ng online news site Rappler.

Binigyan-diin ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, ang punto ng SEC decision ay paglabag ng Rappler sa probisyon ng Saligang Batas na dapat ay 100% Filipino ang may-ari at namamahala ng kompanya ng mass media sa bansa.

“The issue at hand is the compliance of 100% Filipino ownership and management of mass media. It is not about infringement on the freedom of the press,” ayon kay Roque.

Wala aniyang puwedeng lumabag sa batas at kailangan sumunod ang lahat, maging ang Rappler.

“No one is above the law. Rappler has to comply,” sabi ni Roque.

Kaugnay nito, may mga ulat na lumabas na ang Omidyar Network at North Base Media, pawang foreign owners ng Rappler, ay may kaugnayan sa Open Society Foundation na pagmamay-ari ni Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros.

Ilang beses tinuligsa ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Soros bilang nagpopondo sa mga destabilisasyon laban sa kanyang administrasyon.

May report na si Soros din ang nagtustos sa destabilisasyon laban sa pro-Russian Ukraine kaya idineklara ni Russian President Vladimir Putin na ban sa kanilang bansa.
