NANAWAGAN si Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez sa pamahalaang Marcos na ibalik ang usapang pangkapayaan sa Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
Ang apela ay ginawa ni Rodriquez kasunod ng pahayag ni Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr., na hindi siya pabor na ipagpatuloy ang usapang pangkapayapaan sa CPP-NPA-NDF.
Ayon kay Rodriguez kahina-hinala ang personal na panindigan ni Teodoro.
“I hope that he reconsiders that position, because this long-running communist insurgency has resulted in the loss of many Filipino lives – communist guerrillas, soldiers and civilians, including children. Just one Filipino the government could save by talking with the communists is worth all the effort,” ani Rodriguez.
Naniniwala si Rodriguez, lumiliit na ang numero ng mga NPA kaya imbes ubusin sila mas mainam na makabalik sila sa lipunan.
“I am sure that these CPP-NPA-NDF remnants would want to enjoy life in peace with their families, instead of getting exterminated by the overwhelming military power of the state. They should realize that their dream of more 50 years of taking over the government has remained just that — an impossible dream,” dagdag ni Rodriquez.
Ipinaalala ng mambabatas ng Cagayan de Oro na ang Tarlac, ang bayan ni Teodoro, ay lunga ng mga NPA noong nakaraang panahon.
“Look where Tarlac and Pampanga are now. They are growth areas, they are booming because there are no more communists there and because the government built infrastructure like roads in these provinces,” anang mambabatas.
Naniniwala din si Rodriguez na umiiral na rin ang kapayapaan at kaunlaran sa Visayas at Mindanao.

Hinimok ni Rodriguez si Teodoro na muling isaalang-alang ang paninindigan nito na wakasan ang security agreement ng DND sa University of the Philippines na ibinasura ng dating kalihim na si Delfin Lorenzana noong 2021.
Ang kasunduan ay nagbabawal sa mga militar at pulis sa loob ng Unibesidad ng Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Teodoro, ang pagbasura sa UP-DND agreement ay desisyon ng naunang kalihim at wala siyang balak na baguhin ito. Bagay na ikinalungkot ni Rodriquez na nagmula sa kapareho niyang nagtapos ng abogasiya sa UP. (GERRY BALDO)
