Kapansin-pansing wala ang mga pangalan nina Coco Martin para sa pelikulang Apag at RK Bagatsing para sa pelikulang Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko: The Music of Rey Valera sa mga nominado bilang Best Actor. Tanging sina Gerald Anderson (Unravel: A Swiss Side Love Story), Carlo Aquino (Love You Long Time), Romnick Sarmenta (About Us But Not About Us), Elijah Canlas (About Us But Not About Us), Enchong Dee(Here Comes The Groom), at Yoo Min-Gon (Yung Libro Sa Napanuod Ko) ang mga nominado.
Nominado naman para sa festival’s Best Actress category sina Kylie Padilla, Gladys Reyes, at Bela Padilla. Tatlong pelikula lamang mula sa walong entries na kalahok sa SMMFF ang nakapasok sa Best Picture category. Ito ang About Us But Not About Us

Bago ang announcement ng mga nominado, inihayag naman ni MMFF spokesperon Noel Ferrer ang pagkakapili kay Dolly de Leon bilang film festival’s chairperson of the jury.
Ang Gabi ng Parangal ay isinagawa kagabi sa New Frontier Theater na napanood sa OnePH, 8:00 p.m. at may delayed telecast sa TV5, 10:45 p.m..
