SC senior justices ikonsidera ni Duterte

NANAWAGAN ang House justice committee kay Pangulong Ro­drigo “Digong” Duterte na ikonsi­dera ang senior members ng Korte Suprema bago magtalaga ng bagong chief justice.

“I just hope the President will do the right thing in terms of the appointment by following the tradition. Kapag mayroong bypassing, ang mangyayari talaga magkakaroon ng conflict. Hopefully we will be able to avoid this,” ani Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, chairman ng House justice committee.

Ani Umali, miyembro ng Judicial and Bar Council na nagsusumite sa presidente ng short list ng mga kandidatong justices, bubusisiin nilang mabuti ang pagpili ng bagong chief justice.

Aniya, nangyari ang bypass sa senior justices noong panahon ni dating Pangulong Benigno Aquino III.

Kaugnay nito, nanawagan din si Deputy Speaker at Bata­ngas Rep. Raneo Abu, sa publiko na respetohin ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema sa pagbasura sa petisyon ni Sereno.

Nauna rito naghain si Sereno ng petisyon na tingnan muli ng mga mahistrado ang kanilang desisyon na tanggalin siya sa puwesto bilang chief justice.

“Let’s be an advocates of sobriety by respecting the authority of the Supreme Court as the last bulwark of demo­cracy. Now after due process was given, it is time to move on,” ani Abu.

Para kay Isabela Rep. Rodol­fo “Rodito” Albano III ang ruling ay “expected and Sereno should not expect it will be overturned.”

Dahil dito ang impeachment complaint laban kay Sereno ay ibaba­sura na ng Mababang Kapu­lungan, ani Umali.

“The ruling renders the impeachment case against former Chief Justice Sereno moot and academic. The SC decision was expected and we will now archive her impeach­ment case in the plenary when we resume session,” ani Umali.

Pareho ang pananaw ni Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez kay Umali.

Ang pagpapatalsik kay Sereno ay inihain ni Solicitor General Jose Calida na nagsa­bing invalid ang appointment kay Sereno.

“That was expected. Now I believe CJ should continue her battle in the legislative arena. I think she should join our LP senate slate,” ani Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano.  (GERRY BALDO)
