“Among the celebrity attendees, Sen. Poe asked me and Ms. Nora to voice out our concerns regarding the industry at mga recommendations. Ms. Nora voiced out her concerns, ako naman ang nagbigay ng recommendations.
“Eto ang sinabi ko roon: ‘Po-litics & the economy are not the only matters that shape a country’s global reputation. Arts and Culture are also part of the pie. According to Sen. Sotto, the iconic TV Series Hawaii 5-0 was actually produced by Hawaii itself as a way to showcase Hawaii to the world and it yielded great results (ie, tourism, business opportunities, etc).
“’There have been other instances of relatively obscure countries gaining world awareness because of movies which represent them well. That is why, whenever our country is given the honor of having a Motion Picture included in world renowned festivals such as Cannes or the likes, it is an opportunity for our country to be showcased world wide.
“With that, I would like to appeal for a greater government support for the production and delegates who will fly to attend the festivals. Even simple matters such as flight accommodations say a lot about us. Our delegates should have that certain “premium” in order to represent our movie (and our country) in a manner that would leave everyone with a good and lasting impact,” saad sa amin ni Lance nang kapanayamin namin siya.
Dagdag pa niya, “’Marami pa akong tinalakay but the main issue is – the artistic merits of a movie (that gives it the chance to be recognized and apprecia-ted in a more global level) has nothing to do with the amount of money the movie outfit has. Sometimes, a simple Indie might even catch the jury’s fancy better than one that costs millions to produce.
“’So, there may be instan-ces that the production and de-legates invited to represent the country may not have the means to attend the event or represent the country with premium. Hopefully, the government can help out in this manner because after all, both entities will gain in the end.’
“Sen. Poe took note of my recommendation and assured action will be taken.”
Madrid International Film Festival.
