Hirit ng China na ‘palayain’ ibinasura ng Palasyo (Sa 9 Chinese fishermen)

IBINASURA ng Palasyo kahapon ang hirit ng China na “unconditional release” sa siyam Chinese fishermen na sinentensiyahan ng hukuman sa Palawan sa kasong poaching sa Hasa-Hasa (Half moon) Shoal sa West Philippine Sea.

Ayon kay Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., na kahit sapat na ang panahon na ginugol sa bilangguan ng mga Tsinong mangingisda ay hindi sila maaaring palayain at pabalikin sa kanilang bansa hangga’t hindi nakapagbabayad ng multa na bahagi ng hatol sa kanila ng hukuman.

“According to the Department of Justice, through Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, they have already served the penalty of subsidiary imprisonment for the offense of poaching and for the possession… For the offense pertaining to possession of endangered species, the court imposed a penalty of payment of fines. Upon payment of the fines, they are deemed to have served the penalty fully, and there is no further impediment for them to leave the country,” ani Coloma.

Batay sa hatol ni Puerto Princesa City Regional Trial Court Branch 51 Judge Ambrosio de Luna, inutusan ang siyam Chinese fishermen na magbayad ng multang $100,000 (P4.3 milyon) bawat isa para sa kasong poaching at P120,000 ($2,666) bawat isa para sa illegal na pagkuha ng sea turtles sa Hasa-Hasa Shoal noong nakalipas na Mayo.
