Kuya Boy, nararapat na pamunuan ang CCP

INDUSTRY knowledge na malaki ang naiambag ni Boy Abunda sa kandidatura ni Noynoy Aquino sa pagkapangulo noong 2010.  Kung hindi kami nagkakamali, the King of Talk should be credited for P-Noy’s battlecry na “matuwid na daan.”

Nang manalo’t ipinroklamang Presidente si Noynoy, showbiz industry was abuzz with talks na alin sa dalawang puwesto sa gobyerno ang umano’y iniaalok kay Kuya Boy: bilang Kalihim ng Department of Tourism o pinuno ng Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Bagamat ‘di matatawaran ang husay at talino ni Kuya Boy ay swak in either post, heading the CCP was—of course—right up his alley.

Hindi pa man, our colleagues believed it was a welcome idea. Karapat-dapat nga namang pamunuan ni Kuya Boy ang CCP, himself a product of the Metropolitan Theatre (sa PR department nito) na lumalabas din sa entablado. His theatrical background was an advantage for the CCP post.

‘Yun nga lang, for some reason, hindi ‘yon natuloy.

This writer would like to play around with “what ifs.” What if kung ang naturang puwesto landed on Kuya Boy’s lap? Would the current brouhaha tungkol sa naudlot na pagkakahirang kay Nora Aunor—Kuya Boy’s idol—bilang National Artist have been prevented from happening?

Sa CCP at NCCA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts) dumadaan ang proseso ng selection. At kung sakaling si Kuya Boy ang pinuno ng CCP bolstered by the list submitted by the NCCA, would P-Noy have changed his mind on the Nora issue bilang pagtanaw ng malaking utang na loob sa TV host whose invaluable (and pro bono) support installed him to power?
