Edna ni Irma, kakaiba sa karaniwang OFW story

INTERVIEWING an intelligent actress like Irma Adlawan is a breath of fresh air.

Kasi naman, very few actresses make sense sa mga interview but Irma is one of them.

Playing the lead role in an  OFW movie entitled Edna,  we immediately asked Irma kung mayroong pressure dahil lead role siya sa said indie film.

With all humility, wala ayon sa magaling na aktres.

“Hindi naman, wala naman,” she said during our interview sa lobby ng Manila Peninsula Hotel.

We asked her kung bakit tinanggap niya ang movie, kung ang appeal ba nito ay ang lead role part niya?

“One because it’s a friend’s project which is Ronnie Lazaro and Tonet Gedang. They mentioned it already bago pa natapos ang script. Nasa utak pa lang ni Ronnie, a gist, a summary of what he wanted to do. Sabi niya, ‘mayroon akong gustong gawin. Gusto rin ni Tonet na gumawa ng pelikula. Gusto ko ikaw (ang bida).”

For this great actress, Edna is a different OFW film—much different from Flor Contemplacion to Anak to Cattleya.

“Ang story lagi ng OFW na pinakikita natin ay ang problema ng nanay sa anak. Itong story ng ‘Edna’ ay binibigyan ng boses ang OFW, ‘yung hindi niya masabi sa pamilya niya dahil siyempre as Filipinos ang ano natin ay obligasyon na tumulong sa pamilya, pati ‘yong sa extended family. Dito the twist at the end na hindi mo-ini-expect ay parang nagsalita siya in a way na hindi siya nakasakit pero inilabas niya. Hindi siya the usual OFW story na at the end ay may reconciliation, at end they will understand, at the end they will say I will not do it again. Hindi siya ganoon. Hindi siya the usual ending.”
