KINOMPIRMA ni Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) National Director Asis G. Perez na lubhang kailangan ang sari-saring heavy equipments para sa programang rehabilitasyon ng mga nasalantang bukid at niyugan sa Region 8.
Partikular na tinukoy ni Asis—Special Supervising Officer ng Department of Agriculture (DA) para sa rehabilitasyon sa Samar, Biliran at Leyte—ang mga 120hp tractors at dump trucks na ipahihiram ng Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) sa kanyang tanggapan para sa paghahakot ng mga natumbang puno ng niyog at paglilinis sa mga bukid na sinalanta ng bag-yong ‘Yolanda.’
“‘Yung 120-hp tractors from DAR okay ‘yon. We need to have those tractors and the other equipment, hopefully, within the next three weeks so we can begin clearing the farms and process fallen coconut trees into lumber or wood chips for fertilizer and fuel,” sabi ni Perez.
Ayon sa BFAR chief, ang malalaking traktora mula sa DAR ay gagamiting pandagdag sa hand tractors ng BFAR at 500 chainsaw na nauna nang dinala sa rehi-yon ng Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).
Tatapusin ng BFAR ang paglilinis ng mga bukid at niyugan sa loob ng 75 araw upang masimulan ang pagtatanim ng kamote, kape at iba pang pananim.
Kaugnay nito, sinabi ni DAR Secretary Virgilio delos Reyes na handa ang DAR na ipahiram ang mga nabanggit na kagamitan para sa programa ng BFAR-DA.
“We will proceed with the procurement of the trucks and tractors as soon as possible,” sabi ni Delos Reyes. ”After the completion of the program, the DAR will have these machines refurbished and delivered to their intended farmer-beneficiaries.”
Nauna rito, nanawagan ang non-government organizations kabilang ang Fair Trade Alliance at Oxfam para sa mabilis na pagdating ng ayuda sa mga magniniyog sa Region 8.
