Chua, nakahirit pa sa World Cup, 3 bagong marka ng PH nakamit

IBINIDA ng Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (PAI) ang matikas na pagtatanghal ng National Team nitong weekend sa prestihiyosong World Aquatics-sanctioned World Cup Qualifying Series (short course) sa Singapore.

Nakabawi ang mga Filipino swimmers mula sa hindi kapansin-pansing pagtatanghal sa Incheon, Korea Series noong nakaraang lingo, sa pangunguna ni 2023 Cambodia Southeast Asian Games record-holder (200m backstroke) na si Xiandi Chua na kumuha ng karagdagang slot para sa World Cup Championships na gaganapin ngayong taon sa Budapest, Hungary sa kanyang pagkakapasa sa Qualifying Time Standard (B) sa naitalang  2:09.71 sa women’s 200m backstroke.

Nakuha ng 24-anyos senior high student sa De La Salle University, na nag-aaral ng Business Entrepreneurship, ang kanyang unang QTB para sa World Cup sa oras na 4:45.41 sa 400m Individual Medley habang nangangampanya para sa Philippine Team sa 2024 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships nitong Setyembre sa Adelaide, Australia.

Sinira ng kanyang oras ang 4:46.08 Philippine record ni Georgina Peregrina sa New Zealand National Championships noong 5 Oktubre 2018.

“We’re far from our ultimate goal, but we’re moving in that direction. What we’re experiencing right now is the usual lows and highs of any sport, we win some and lose some. Wins like this, however small, are still important to us because it means we’re capable of giving out the best shots at any opportunity. The road to success is never easy, but our swimmers are taking that road,” pahayag ni PAI Secretary-General Batangas 1st District Congressman Eric Buhain.

Ang Vietnam (2022) SEA Games gold medalist na si Chloe Isleta ay makakasama ni Chua para sa World Cup na nakatakda sa 10-15 Disyembre na may dalawang markang QTB –1: O1.59 sa women’s 100m Individual Medley at 59.80 segundo sa 100m backstroke — nakuha niya habang sumabak sa Puerto Rico International Short Course Championship noong 20 Oktubre.

Bukod sa marka na QTB sa Singapore, nakapasok si Chua kasama ang 18-anyos na si Jasmine Mojdeh sa Finals sa 200m butterfly at tumapos sa ikapito at ikawalong puwesto, ayon sa pagkakasunod sa oras na  2:14.11 at 2:16.58.

Gayondin, si Joshua Ang, Rian Marco Adiong Tirol, at Fil-Am Miranda Renner ay nagtatag ng bagong rekord sa Filipinas sa tatlong araw na kampanya ng Nationals na ginabayan nina Olympian Ryan Arabejo at Ramil Ilustre.

Nagrehistro ang 20-anyos na si Ang ng 53.65 segundo sa men’s 100m butterfly. Nagawa ni Tirol ang marka sa 50-m breaststroke sa oras na 27.56 segundo, habang ang 21-anyos na si Renner ay nakagawa ng bagong PH record sa women’s 50m butterfly na nagtala ng 26.75 segundo sa Cup series sa Incheon, South Korea.
