Bayan Muna sa ERC:
PROBE vs ‘OVERCHARGING’ NG MERALCO BILISAN

NANAWAGAN si House Deputy Minority leader and Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate sa  Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) na bilisan ang imbestigasyon sa mga reklamo laban sa Meralco upang mapagaan ang ekonomiya at paghihirap na dinaranas ngayon ng milyon-milyong mamimili sa franchise area nito.

“Meralco should be made accountable for all the amount it may have overcharged its captive consumers.

“Huwag sana itong maging kaso na idinelay daw ang mas malaking power rate increase para itago ang mas malaki pang dapat ibalik sa mga konsumer,” paliwanag ni Zarate.

Inilabas ng Davao-based solon ang kaniyang hinaing nang muling magdagdag ng singil na 53.63 centavos per kilowatt-hour (kWh) ngayong buwan ang Meralco na aniya ay pinakamalaking pagtataas ngayong taon.

At ang idinadahilan umano ay ang mataas na halaga ng elektrisidad na binibili ng distributor mula sa kanilang suppliers.

Ayon kay Zarate, ang  Bayan Muna at consumer watchdog na Matuwid na Singil sa Kuryente (MSK) ay una nang kinuwestiyon ang tatlong kahina-hinalang isinagawang ‘overcharging’ ng Meralco at pinagkakakitaang umabot na ngayon sa bilyon.

“MSK had filed these complaints officially with the ERC more than a year ago. Bayan Muna has also filed resolutions to probe these overcharging issues against Meralco and other distribution utilities and we trust the ERC to use its regulatory powers to resolve these issues the soonest for the benefit of our already struggling consumers,” ani Zarate.

“In the audit of the P66 billion discrepancies, it is to unravel the mystery, how can Meralco sell more power than it is buying? This requires validating the power delivery of their power suppliers and their actual billings for power supply to Meralco and the actual payments,”  giit ni Zarate.

Aniya, “ang mga nasabing numero ay maaaring malaman o mai-check sa metering records ng National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).”

“We call on ERC to get to the bottom of this, so that consumers can be refunded of their money, if warranted, and for those responsible for this should be made accountable. Kailangang-kailangang makatipid ngayon ng mamamayan kaya dapat mas mabilis kumilos ang ERC,” dagdag ng mambabatas.
