ALL praises si Direk Mac Alejandre sa tatlong bida niya sa Tagpuan, isa sa 10 entries na mapapanood in digital sa Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) via Upstream simula Disyembre 25. Ang tatlong bida rito ay sina Iza Calzado, Alfred Vargas, at Shain Magdayao.
Ani Direk, ”napakahusay ng tatlo.”
Nang tanungin kung may laban ba ang tatlong bida niya sa awards night, “Hindi ko alam…relative kasi, subjective naman lagi ang awards eh, masarap ang awards, maganda ‘yan. Kanya-kanyang taste ‘yan eh. Hindi ko alam. Pero sa akin, base sa pelikula, at base sa nakita ko, mahusay silang lahat.
‘’Yung husay na iyon sana makita ng lahat ng manonood. Audience and the jury members. To my mind, they are very good! Very convincing, kasi very comflex ang characters nila.
“Kaya nga ano ang kuwento, sino sila, ang hirap sabihin eh. Ang pelikula ay simple and complex. Both quiet and noisy, story siya ng opposite eh.”
Hindi naman maitago ni Direk ang excitement at kaligayahan na nasama sa MMFF 2020 ang kanilang pelikulang Tagpuan.
“I wanted a story about adults who have fallen in and out of love, or fighting for love after the romance has gone. Then Ricky Lee submitted a screenplay that is questioning and reflective. As it gives answers to questions, it opens up new dimensions to more questions. From the first draft, I knew Tagpuan was a remarkable material,” sambit niya.
Ano nga ba ang challenge na makapagdirehe ng isang Ricky Lee script. Sinabi ni Direk Mac na, ”I’ve always told Ricky the magic of his script is in what is there but is not written. This is not confusing. What is there but is not written is a huge part of a brilliant script. Ang script ni Ricky Lee may mga beautiful line, solid structure, ‘yung natural flow ng ideas. Nandiyan din ‘yung atake niya sa subject matter. At ang maganda sa script ni Ricky, binibigyan niya ng laya ang director para makapag-explore pa roon sa script.”
Sa kabilang banda, pinuri at ipinagmalaki naman ni Alfred si Direk Mac.
Aniya, ”Direk Mac is one of the most brilliant directors I have ever worked with. He’s definitely up there in his generation of filmmakers.
“Direk Mac has both the heart and the mind as his strengths. He follows his gut and always has a clear understanding of the emotions of the film. He’s definitely the actors’ director.
“He will make sure to get the best out of you as an actor. He’s easy to trust especially during very difficult scenes. And most importantly, you can feel much he loves filmmaking it rubs into you as well.”
