AFFLICTED pala ng chronic kidney disease ang dating beauty queen na si Bea Rose Santiago.
So far, wala pang final sched ang kanyang kidney transplant procedure.
Anyway, simula nang matuklasan ang kanyang ailment noong 2018, nagsimula na siyang mag-undergo ng weekly dialysis treatments.
Sa Canada siya nagpapagamot.
Anyhow, every time she goes to Toronto General Hospital, she makes it a point to share to her social-media followers her experiences.
Hindi madali ang kanyang pinagdaraanan dahil kung thrice a week ang dialysis treatment sa ibang mga pasyente, five times a week ang sa kanya.
The dialysis treatment would be stopped once na sumailalim na siya sa kidney transplant procedure na na-postpone ngayong 2020 dahil sa coronavirus pandemic.
“I’ve been having a hard time with my protein intake and now I have low phosphate, low hemoglobin and having muscle aches,” she asseverated.
She talked about her strict diet.
“My doctors and nutritionist recommended many vegan options but after 2 months I am now a pescatarian on the weekends and vegetarian on weekdays. I don’t consume cow’s milk and eggs, but I do love oats milk and goat’s cheese.
“I need weekly Aranesp (isang brand ng gamot na itinuturok sa mga pasyente na may anemia o mababang bilang ng red blood cells) and Iron shots to help me since I dialyze 5x a week and each time is 8- hours while I sleep. Works like magic.”
One thing that Bea Rose is thankful about is the proper healthcare system of Canada.
“The problem in most countries na walang health care, they don’t have doctors or hospital that offers home hemo because there’s a lot of machine technical needs and money. It’s a newer way to dialyze kasi.
“Canada invested in research and lots of investment sa dialysis care,” Bea Rose explained to her social media follower who commented about the high prices of dialysis machine and treatments in the Philippines.
