NAGMUKHANG katawa-tawa ang ilang kritikong KSP ng Philippine Stagers Foundation na pinamumunuan ng award winning theater actor-director-playwright na si Vince Tañada.
Bakit ko nasabing KSP ang mga ito? Saksi kasi ako mismo sa mga play ng PSF na laging puno, lalo na ang paborito ko sa lahat na Bonifacio, Isang Sarsuwela. Bukod pa riyan, sa lahat ng theater company sa Pilipinas, lalahatin ko na, bukod tanging ang PSF lang ang nakagawa ng ganito karaming pagtatanghal sa buong bansa!
Matagumpay ang mga play ng PSF tulad ng Bonifacio, na nagkaroon ng 480 plus shows at Filipinas 1941 na nakapagtala ng 365 shows sa buong bansa sa loob ng 10 months. Idagdag pa rito ang mga karangalan ng pagkilala na nakuha ng PSF. partikular ang founder nitong si Direk Vince, agad ay masasabi nating salat sa kredibilidad ang sinomang magsasabi na isang fly by night ang PSF.
Sa presscon ng #Popepular, ang latest musical play ng PSF, nabanggit ni Direk Vince na tinawag na fly by night ang PSF at hindi ito ilalagay sa Philippine Encyclopedia of Theater.
“Professor Chua wrote a book about Philippine theater. He enumerated all the various theater companies in the Philippines. Be it school base, be it doing Senakulo or even Community Theater with a 15 to 20 year existence but with only one production. He enumerated everything, except Philippine Stagers.
“When asked why is Philippine Stagers not part of the Philippine Encyclopedia of Theater?’ Professor Chua said, ‘That is not a legitimate theater company. That is a fly by night theater company.’
“Those people from legitimate theater companies presented their plays for a month with 24 shows or less. And one particular TV station even said that the play presented by PETA last year is the most successful play for staging the show 100 times. But for Philippine Stagers, 100 shows is just for a month.
“So, I haven’t told anybody, I have not submitted my portfolio to anybody. For the past 14 years, I remained humble and silent.
“Last March, the Artistic Director of Tanghalang Ateneo, Dr. Ricky Abad said, ‘I’ve been following your career and sometimes I watched your play incognito.’ And he said that, ‘I truly believe that you are an underrated artist and the people should know about you.’
“That is the reason why I called upon you tonight,” esplika pa ni Direk Vince.
Nasabi rin ni Direk Vince na hihintayin niya ang paglabas ng Philippine Encyclopedia of Theater. “Because we really want to see if we are indeed not part of the encyclopedia. You know, that is a good device for some theater company. If ever they will come out with a book, some schools, our market schools might question our identity and our legitimacy.
“Maybe, they will be successful in that objective and some of the markets might veer away from our theater company and try to support theirs. Walang problema sa akin, ang problema lang, that is a loss of business opportunity on my part which is punishable by law. Most especially if there is a malicious intent,” seryosong pahayag niya.
Dito siya nagbanta na posibleng magdemanda. “So, if ever that primary evidence will come out soon, I am thinking of suing for damages for not including Philippine Stagers in that Philippine Encyclopedia of Theater. I will sue them for damages.
“So, let this be a warning to them, not for me to be included, but to know my capacity not only as an artist, but as a lawyer as well.
“It’s not the end result which is important, it’s the intent,” diin pa niya
Bukod sa pagiging abogado, si Direk Vince ay isang multi-awarded stage actor, direkor, at playwright. Dalawang beses siyang kinilala ng Aliw Awards bilang Best Actor for Theater in a Musical noong 2007 para sa O’Moises at noong 2011 para sa Cory ng EDSA. Nanalo rin siyang Best Actor sa 2011 Broadway World Awards Philippines para sa Cory ng EDSA.
Noong 2009, siya’y itinanghal ding Aliw Awards Best Director para sa play na Ako si Ninoy na kanyang isinulat at pinagbidahan. Nanalo rin itong Best Musical. Noong 2011 naman, nakuha niya ang first prize sa Palanca sa sinulat niyang three-act play na pinamagatang Ang Bangkay.
Ang #Popepular ay pinamamahalaan, isinulat, at pinagbibidahan ni Direk Vince at mula sa musika ni Pipo Cifra. Ito ay isang experimental musical play na ginawang Filipino si Pope Francis. Dito’y isang pambihirang twist ang mararanasan ng mga Filipino dahil makikita rito ang iba’t ibang buhay ng limang makabagong bayaning Filipino at kung sino si Pope Francis para sa mga Filipino.
Bukod kay Direk Vince, tampok dito sina Bernardo Bernado, Patrick Libao, JV Cruz, Cindy Liper, JP Lopez, Jomar Tañada, Chin Ortega, Kenneth Sadsad, at iba pa. Ngayong buwan, mapapanood ito sa July 18 (SM Centerpoint Cinema 1), July 24 (Adamson University) at 4pm, at July 25-26 (SM Centerpoint Cinema 1).
