Mallari ‘di nakasanayang horror movie

VERY exciting ang paga-abang sa huling apat (na naging anim) na entries na sasabak sa Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 sa darating na Kapaskuhan.

At isa sa talagang inasahan na makapapasok sa mga mapipili ay ang pagbabalik sa pelikula ni Piolo Pascual.

Bukod sa naiiba ang sasakyan niyang katauhan, kakaibang hamon din ang  kaloob sa kanya na ibinase sa tunay na pangyayari sa buhay ng isang paring kaisa-isang nai-dokumentong serial killer sa kanyang panahon. Si Fr. Severino Mallari.

Kaya napakabigat ng iniatang na responsibilidad ng prodyuser na si John Bryan Diamante sa direktor na si Derick Cabrido para sa proyekto. Ang Mallari.

At matapos na maihayag ang anim pang kalahok sa nasabing festival, nakausap ko ang direktor ng pelikula. At nahingan ng ilang salita tungkol sa kanyang nabuong obra.

“This is not their typical horror movie.

“’Mallari’  is inspired by true events and fiction. Iba-iba ang levels ng horror ng ‘Mallari.’  From jump scare, psychological, to realism. 

“We kept some facts ng tunay na buhay ni Fr. Severino (based on the research that we have). They will see a different horror movie in Mallari. 

“Mahirap siya gawin sa totoo lang. Mixing facts at fictional at gawin siyang horror. Not to mention na three timeline siya. So, sobrang challenging not just to me as a cirector but to the lead actors as well. 

“Imagine performing three different roles at the same time! Giving your best and making sure that you will not sacrifice one character over the other. Nakababaliw ‘yun ah! 

“Kailangan nila abangan si Piolo rito because I think this is a master class for acting. All the cast performed more than we expected as well like Janella (Salvador), Elise (Joson), JC Santos, and Tita Gloria (Diaz). 

“I am so proud and honored to work with all these artists. They really showed the other side that we don’t usually see in films. They really gave their best kahit ang dami kong hiningi and because of that I am so grateful that I worked with them.”

Sa paggawa pa lang ng pelikula, very excited na ang producer na si Bryan sa pag-ikot ng produksiyon.

They got no less than Paolo Orendain to be the Director of Photography. And to achieve those  errie and creepy scenes of the 1800’s, they made use of the Alexa 35 camera, isa sa pinakamahal na camera na ginagamit sa Hollywood since 2000. 

Leaving no stone unturned, the boss made sure na bawat pahirap sa kanyang mga manggaganap was well-compensated. Kaya usap-usapan na sa ‘di niya tinanggihang presyo ni Piolo na nadagdagan pa dahil sa tuwa niya, ito na ang maitutuwing na highest paid actor ng bansa sa kasalukuyan.

Inihanda talaga ang pelikula para mapasaya ang sambayanan sa isang suspense-thriller of a movie na may horror feels na kasama na sa tinatangkilik ng mga manonood sa panahon ng Kapaskuhan, ang Mallari.

Bakit niya sinabing “Walang Diyos sa gabi?”  

Ang nagsagawa ng announcement sa anim na entries sa MMFF2023 ay sina Metro Manila Film Festival Overall Chairman Atty Romando S. Artes, Selection Committee Chair Mr. Jesse Ejercito, Atty. Rochelle Ona, at MMFF spokeperson Noel Ferrer.
