WARNING NI DUTERTE SA SABUNGERO, ‘WAG MANDAYA

NAGBABALA si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga sabungerong nasa operasyon ng e-sabong na huwag sumawsaw sa dayaan para hindi matulad sa kapalaran ng nawalang 31 sabungero.

Sa kanyang talumpati sa inagurasyon ng bagong Leyte provincial complex at sa pamamahagi ng titulo ng lupa at certificates of land ownership sa mga dating rebeldeng komunista sa Palo, Leyte, tila binigyan katuwiran ni Duterte ang pagkawala ng mga sabungero sanhi aniya ito ng kanilang pandaraya.

“It’s just like with that woman who deals with cards in casinos and then she got caught. Will you kill all the dealers in the casino? Cockfighting is legal. The license given to operate is legal. So the cockfighters should straighten up their act and do it the legal way. Now if there’s cheating involved, hindi na problema — paano mo maagapan?” sabi ni Duterte.

“Now, the cockfighting enthusiasts who disappeared actually sabotaged the cockfights. They will either maim the gamefowls or soak them, then the next day enter it into a fight, it will shiver, chickens also get flu. That’s the reason behind their disappearance,” aniya .

“And you know these cockfighters, many of them — all of them keep on ahhh, mga kristo? They’d be robbing people days before Sunday. That’s how it is,” dagdag niya.

Giit ni Duterte, hindi niya pakikinggan ang rekomendasyon ng Senado na suspendehin ang operasyon ng e-sabong dahil sa mga insidente ng pagkawala ng mga sabungero.

Mas matimbang para kay Duterte ang P640 milyong kinikita ng gobyerno mula sa operasyon ng e-sabong, dahil legal ito at binigyan ng lisensiya ng pamahalaan sa dahilang may kabutihang dulot sa mas nakararami.

“Now, the Senate wants me to suspend it. But why should suspend it when it is cockfighting? It’s a legal… Why would the government permit it to operate if it’s illegal? So it must be good. Otherwise, why would they be granted a license if it is bad?” ani Duterte.

“So it’s for the greater good. So that you’ll understand it better, this is my warning. The e-sabong — well, it won’t get out, I won’t allow it. That is its limit. Just let them be. For as long as there’s no cheating involved, then we won’t interfere,” aniya.

“So why would you…? Where will I — we don’t have money, we’ve depleted our budget in addressing COVID. That’s 640 million a month. How many can be given medicine for that amount?” giit ni Duterte.

Noong nakaraang linggo, naglabas ng memorandum si Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea na nagsasaad na tuloy ang operasyon ng kontrobersiyal na e-sabong kahit may resolution ang Senado na suspendehin ang operasyon nito habang hindi pa nalulutas ang mga kaso ng pagkawala ng mga sabungero.

Nauna rito, sa ginanap na pagdinig sa Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs kamakailan, humarap sa pagdinig ang negosyanteng si Atong Ang, may-ari ng Lucky 8 (Star Quest Inc.) isa sa e-sabong licensee at kabigan ni Duterte, na isinasangkot sa likod ng pagkawala ng mga sabungero ngunit mariin niyang itinanggi.
