PUWEDENG arestohin ang anak ng diktador at presidential aspirant na si Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., kapag tumapak sa Estados Unidos dahil sa pagkakautang na $365 milyon sa hukuman at $2 bilyon sa mga biktima ng human rights violations ng rehimeng Marcos.
Sinabi ni dating Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) commissioner Ruben Carranza, nahaharap sa contempt judgment sina Marcos Jr., at kanyang inang si Imelda Marcos sa Amerika dahil sa pagsuway sa utos ng korte na bayaran ang $2-bilyong danyos ng mga biktima ng paglabag sa karapatang pantao noong rehimeng Marcos .
Dahil sa hindi pagsunod sa utos ng korte, pinagbabayad silang mag-ina ng multang umabot na sa $365 milyon mula noong 1995.
“Marcos Jr., can be arrested and jailed in the US for failing to pay his debts. He has a contempt judgment against him [and his mother] in the US for disobeying the same US court that directed the Marcoses to pay $2B in damages to victims of their family’s human rights violations,” sabi ni Carranza sa paskil sa Facebook.
“The original 1995 contempt order has been extended to 2031. The total amount they must pay as a penalty [as of 2012]: $356M. This is separate from the $2B judgment they also owe their victims,” dagdag ni Carranza.
Kapag nagpunta aniya ang mag-inang Marcos ay kailangan humarap sila sa korte at kapag sila’y tumanggi, maglalabas ng bench warrant ang hukuman para sila’y dakpin at ibilanggo hanggang hindi nila ikinakanta kung saan nakatago ang nakaw na yaman ng kanilang pamilya.
“If they go to the US, they can be compelled to appear before the court. If they refuse to appear, a ‘bench warrant’ can be issued against them and if arrested, they can be imprisoned until they pay the penalty and [based on the original judgment they violated] disclose where the rest of their ill-gotten assets are,” giit ni Carranza.
“So if you’re a journalist [or even if you aren’t], ask Marcos Jr., “Are you ready to go to the US, face the court and pay both the $2B damages you owe to your family’s victims and the $356M contempt penalty? Or are you just going to hide forever?”
Sa panayam sa The Chiefs sa One News kagabi, ipinaliwanag ni Carranza, si Marcos Jr., ang may hawak ng susi ng nakaw na yaman ng kanilang pamilya dahil siya ang naging administrador ng assets ng kanya ama mula nang mamatay noong 1989.
Batid aniya ni Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo ang mga detalye ng ill-gotten wealth ng mga Marcos dahil gaya niya ay naging PCGG commissioner din ang Punong Mahistrado.
Inaasahang makararating sa Korte Suprema ang disqualification case laban kay Marcos na inihain ng martial law victims, Akbayan partylist, at Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA) sa Commission on Elections (Comelec).
