KUNG hindi pa binanggit ng katotong Pilar Mateo na anak ni dating Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista si Race Matias ay hindi malalaman ng mga dumalo sa Indak mediacon.
Hindi naman kasi rito lumaki at nag-aral si Race kaya hindi aware ang tao sa kanya bukod pa sa hindi rin siya pumo-pronta. Ang binata ay anak ni Eloisa Matias na rating TV executive ng ABS-CBN.
Going back to Race, nagtapos siya ng Filmmaking at Scriptwriting sa New York Academy at acting sa Los Angeles, California. Sa madaling salita, may kinalaman sa showbiz ang mga kursong tinapos ng binata.
At ngayong tapos na si Race ay pinayagan na siya ng mama niyang mag-showbiz.
”Aral daw po talaga muna sabi ng mom ko. At first I wanted to join like ‘yung ‘Goin’ Bulilit,’ ‘Pinoy Big Brother,’ pero paulit-ulit akong minamartilyo sa ulo ko ng nanay ko na, ‘Uy ikaw, wala kang gagawin hanggang magtapos ka. ‘Yon talaga ‘yung priority –focus sa school and get a degree kahit saan and after that full-pledged support na talaga in whatever I want to do,”kuwento ni Race.
Unang pelikula nito ang Indak nina Nadine Lustre at Sam Concepcion produced ng Viva Films na mapapanood na sa Agosto 7, si Alexie Paul Basinilio ang direktor.
“Now, full support sila. It was a very good choice for my parents. I’m lucky enough I was able to find my passion in acting. I guess it sort started when I joined dancing and then from there, I started a hobby watching movies, video games, reading comics.”
Dagdag pa ng baguhang aktor, ”I remember my mom asking me what I wanted when I grow up. I was the biggest fan of ‘Spider-man.’ Natawa lang siya so I asked why. ‘She said, he’s just an actor.’ So I wanted to be an actor.”
At ang hindi malilimutan ni Race nang makaharap niya ang bida ng Indak, ”Akala ko nga talaga, mataray siya. But she’s great. She’s a lovely person to work, to hang out with. Of course, at first, medyo na-i-intimidate ako sa kanya kasi it’s Nadine Lustre. You go to any street in the Philippines, mukha niya ‘yong makikita mo,” saad ng binata.
Dagdag pa, ”I’m not going to lie, I was very scared of her the first time. As the production went on and I got to know the cast and crew better, I realized that ‘Wow. I must be stupid to assume that a person this humble and this selfless would be mataray.’
“It just changed my perspective, meeting people as a whole. She’s a great person, and I hope to God one day that I get to work with her again.”
Kanya-kanyang hula naman ang mga katoto kung sino ang kamukha ni Race, ”hati, may anggulong kahawig din ni Mayor Bistek.
