Pinoy woodpusher mula Kyusi gumawa ng ingay sa Singapore

GUMAWA nang ingay ang isang Pinoy na nakabase sa Singapore sa  ahedrez  para maiukit ang kanyang pangalan sa mas kilalang Lion City.

Naitala ni 1996 Philippine Junior Champion National Master Roberto Suelo Jr. ang 7.5 puntos sa siyam na laro para makopo ang ttulo ng Thomson Chess Fiesta-Cup Rapid event kamakailan sa Singapore.

Si Suelo na ang kasalukuyang trabaho ay bilang chess teacher sa Singapore ay pinanganak at lumaki sa Quezon City, ang dating anak ng isang shoe maker ay hindi makakalimutan matapos niyang pangunahan ang Rizal Technological University (RTU) Mandaluyong woodpushers sa national championships title sa national inter-collegiate nitong dekada 90’s.

Tatlong manlalaro naman ang nakapagtala ng tig pitong puntos para magsalo sa ika-2 puwesto, na sina Heng Zheng Kai at Sean Christian Goh of Singapore at Joshua Juaneza ng Philippines.

“Once again Filipino woodpusher proved that we can shine in chess and that’s Roberto (Suelo) did, iI hope that we should give chess more attention in our country so that we can produce more champions in abroad.” sabi ni Reynaldo “Eric” Acosta, confidante ni Suelo, at top chess player mula Baseco, Tondo, Manila.

Sa Challenger section, isa pang Filipino bet sa katauhan naman ni Jomel Ortiz ang nakakuha ng third-overall matapos ipatupad ang  tie break points. Mas superior ang kanyang quotient kina fellow seven pointers Samuel Ho Khai Sheng, Xin Hong Kai, at  Bradley Tan Zhiren ng Singapore.

Tumapos si Jay Azel Chua Tze ng Singapore na undefeated sa nine outings para maangkin ang korona. Solo second place naman si Lucas Auyeung Chi Hung ng Singapore na may 7.5 puntos.

Sina NM Suelo at Ortiz, ay parehong active member ng International Churches of Christ (ICOC) sa Singapore.

Ang isa pang   top Filipino player na active member ng International Churches of Christ (ICOC) ay si US-based Grandmaster Julio Catalino Sadorra.
