CEGP: End Impunity

KINONDENA ng College Editors Guild of the Philippines ang pagpaslang kay dating Inquirer correspondent Melinda ‘Mei’ Magsino kamakalawa ng hapon sa Brgy. Balagtas, Batangas City.

Ayon sa malalapit na kaibigan at kaanak ni Magsino, ito ay maaaring bunsod ng pagbatikos ng biktima sa mga politiko sa social media.

Kamakailan, sumulat si Magsino ng expose kaugnay sa illegal gambling activities na aniya’y sinusuportahan ng local officials ng Batangas.

“Magsino’s death scores to the unending roll of impunity and extrajudicial killings in the country. It evokes immense discomfort to campus journalists that the truth-telling industry is lethal and hazardous,” pahayag ni CEGP National President Marc Lino Abila.

Ayon sa CEGP, hindi na ligtas ang bansa sa mga journalist bunsod nang tumataas na bilang ng napapatay na mga mamamahayag.

“Indeed the Philippines has an inimical climate to its journalists. We have a system that that denies justice and promotes impunity. A murder of one journalist is a slaughter to the freedom of speech,” giit ni Abila.

“By and large, it is noteworthy that the Aquino regime has inflated the crime against journalists. Up to date, there has been no significant turnout on the continuing Ampatuan Massacre. Magsino’s death reminds us that the current administration will only pursue a bloody trail in the toll of its truth-keepers,” aniya pa.
