NAGKAMPEON ang batikang woodpusher at National Master (NM) Robert Arellano sa Solas Charity Rapid Chess Tournament Open noong Linggo, 13 Oktubre 2024 sa Solas Garden Center Portarlington, Laois, Ireland.
Ibinulsa ni NM Arellano, na naglalaro para sa IIEE-PSME-Quezon City Simba’s Tribe sa Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), ang tropeo ng kampeonato para sa paghahari sa torneo na nagtala ng mahigit 50 woodpushers.
Nagkaroon siya ng halos perpektong kampanya pagkatapos magtala ng 6.5 puntos sa pitong round Swiss system competition (rapid time control format 15 minutes plus 10 seconds increment).
Tinalo ni NM Arellano sina Jain Tushar, Niki Mullins, Korneliusz Bartczak sa una at ikatlong round, ayon sa pagkakabanggit.
Hinati niya ang puntos kay Mustakim-Ul Haque sa ikaapat na round.
Pagkatapos ay tinalo niya sina FIDE Master Rory Quinn sa ikalimang round, Vitaliy Salmin sa ikaanim na round at Darun Govindaraju sa ikapito at huling round.
“I am truly humbled and honored to represent our country in this prestigious event here in Ireland,” sabi ni Arellano na isang engineer na overseas Filipino worker (OFW) sa Ireland. I would like to dedicate my victory to my countrymen,” dagdag ni Arellano, isa sa top players ng IIEE Chessmasters chess club.
Binati ni IIEE National Past President Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez si Engineer Arellano sa latest success sa International arena ng huli.
“This is a very good year for waving the Philippine banner in the international arena. These championship trophies are hard-earned and well deserved,” sambit ni Engr. Alvarez, pamangkin ng yumaong Senador Heherson Alvarez.
