REREPASOHIN ng Department of Energy (DOE) ang pagbili sa Shell Philippines Exploration (SPEX) ni Uy.
“[O]nce the transaction has been completed at the consortium level, it will still be submitted to the DOE for its review and approval in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 87 (PD 87) otherwise known as the Oil Exploration and Development Act of 1972,” sabi ni Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
Tiniyak ng kalihim na bubusisiin nang husto ng kagawaran ang naturang transaksiyon.
“The DOE will, accordingly and judiciously, evaluate the legal, financial, and technical aspects of the transaction, and its impact to the obligations of [the] consortium to the Philippine government according to the terms of SC 38 (Service Contract 38) and PD 87,” dagdag niya.
Nakatakdang mag-expire ang SC 38 o ang Malampaya gas-to-power project sa 2024 pero wala pang anunsiyo ang gobyerno kung palalawigin ang lisensiya.
Iimbestigahan din ng Senate energy committee ang naging transaksiyon ni Uy sa SPEX.
Batay sa DoE, ang Malampaya Gas Field ang “biggest and by far only the second commercial gas discovery in the Philippines to date.”
Nagtataglay ito ng “2.7 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas reserves and 85 million barrels of condensate, located some 3,000 meters below sea level.”
Sa Malampaya nagmumula ang supply ng natural gas sa limang power plants sa Luzon na pinanggagalingan ng 1/5 ng elektrisidad sa buong bansa. (ROSE NOVENARIO)
