PINAGBAWALAN ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang mga miyembro ng kanyang gabinete na pag-usapan sa publiko ang isyu ng pangangamkam ng China sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) maliban kina Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque at Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr.
Nang tanungin si Roque kung kasama sa gag order si Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na nag-utos na palayasin ang Chinese ships mula sa WPS, ang tugon ni Roque, “I think the President’s message was clear, and I don’t have to interpret it.”
Iyan din ang sagot ni Roque, nang usisain kung maging ang National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) ay kasama sa gag order gayong regular na naglalabas ng mga kalatas at mga larawan hinggil sa pananatili ng Chinese ships sa exclusive economic zone.
“The instruction of the President was clear… that only the secretary of Foreign Affairs and myself can speak on the issue now,” sabi ni Roque.
“Although there is transparency, an exception to transparency are diplomatic communications and inputs that form the basis of diplomatic communications,” ani Roque.
“We need to allow the executive branch to make the correct decision no matter what,” aniya.
Sa kabila ng hindi pagkilala ng Beijing sa 2016 arbitral ruling na nagbasura sa “historical” claims nito sa South China Sea, hindi gumalaw si Pangulong Duterte para igiit sa China sa nakalipas na limang taong.
Umani ng batikos ang pagtawag ni Duterte na isang pirasong papel na puwedeng itapon sa basurahan ang arbitral victory ng Filipinas kontra China. (ROSE NOVENARIO)
