“I had an unforgettable math teacher in High School.
“You see, math has always been my Achilles heel, and my grades were just awful.
“But this teacher believed I could do better so she went out of her way to tutor me in algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and calculus. Sometimes meron pang kasamang merienda.
“I didn’t think I was getting any better but because she never gave up on me, by the time I graduated, I was awarded a medal. For math!!!
“We lost touch when I was in college and she eventually migrated to the US where she has lived ever since.
“Thanks to Facebook, we started communicating again, and three years ago, she produced a concert for me in Poughkeepsie, New York.
“What have I done to deserve a teacher like her?
“Fast forward to the present, when she saw the quarantine projects I was making, she challenged me to prep for an exhibit by finishing twelve to fourteen pieces by May 15.
“When she suggested that, I was only on my third piece, so I was like, twelve to fourteen? Yeah, like thats going to happen!
“But lo and behold, It’s May 15 and I made it to fourteen.
“I don’t know about doing an exhibit, but I made it to the magic number and that makes me very happy.
“Thanks for still believing in me, tita Valerie Jelski.
“It’s teachers like you who make students like me want to do the best they can even when they’re not in school anymore.”
