ANG multi-awarded director/producer/actor at socio-civic influencer na si Romm Burlat ay nagwagi na naman ng acting awards. This time, dalawang international awards ito bilang Best Supporting Actor sa pelikulang Attention Grabbing (Agaw Pansin) sa Oniros Film Awards sa Italy. Tinalo niya sa kategoryang ito ang 52 semi-finalists. Ang isa pa ay bilang Best Actor in a Horror sa kanyang outstanding performance sa Covered Candor (Tutop) sa Actors Awards Los Angeles, California. Bale, nasungkit niya ang naturang pagkilala sa pagitan lang ng tatlong araw.
Sa parehong pelikula, gumanap si Burlat bilang mga baliw na karakter. Sa Attention Grabbing, si Direk Romm ay isang mentally-deranged na ginahasa ang isang babae na rati niyang minahal at binigyan ng anak na lalaki. Sa Covered Candor, ginampanan niya ang isang baliw na tatay na pumapatay sa mga salot ng lipunan tulad ng prostitutes at snatchers, para mapakain ang kanyang cannibal na anak.
Nang usisain namin kung paano niya pinaghandaan ang papel sa mga pelikulang ito, pabirong tugon ng prolific actor/director: “Nothing. In real life, I am “baliw”so it was not difficult to play these challenging characters.”
Aniya, “In Attention Grabbing, I was also the director but I gave the directorial job of Covered Candor to the horror director, Marvin Gabas, since it’s his forte. Aside from that, I want to concentrate on my role which demanded gamut of emotions from me.
“These two international awards are fitting gifts for my birthday which was celebrated a week before I received these awards.”
Siya ay nakakuha rin ng nomination bilang Best Actor sa Gawad Pelikula Filipinas Awards kasama ang mga established actor na sina Dingdong Dantes, Ogie Alcasid, Dennis Trillo, Paolo Contis, Raymond Bagatsing, at Louise Abuel.
Matatandaan last year, si Direk Romm ay nagwaging Best Director sa 16th We Care International Film Festival sa New Delhi, India. Ito ang naging daan upang kilalanin siya ng Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) early this year. Next year, asahang muling gagawaran ng pagkilala si Direk Romm bilang FDCP honoree para sa dalawang international acting awards na kanyang natamo.
Sa ngayon, si Direk Romm ay may 8 Best Director awards, 2 Best Actor awards, 2 Best Supporting awards, 11 international recognition, 3 international awards sa pelikula at 8 iba pang international awards. Nagwagi rin siya last year as Best TV Talk Show Host at noong 2018, bilang Best Talent Manager naman.
Nabanggit niya ang pinagkakaabalahan habang naghihintay na safe na ulit mag-shooting.
Esplika ni Direk Romm, “Preparation sa 17th We Care International Film Festival (as Festival Director). I am currently communicating to all directors in the world. Tentatively, it will be in September this year in Manila.
“Yes, tuloy ang filmfest na ito. Kung may problema pa rin sa pandemic, God forbid, magiging online film festival na siya.”
Dagdag ni Direk Romm, “Also, getting ready for the continuous shoots of And I Loved Her and Bakit Nasa Huli Ang Simula. Ang We Care kung ma-adjust man ang schedule, magdedepende sa UNESCO and Brotherhood of India.
“Now, we are in the planning stage of the follow-up of Tutop which is Imik. I will still be the lead as deaf-mute and Marvin Gabas will still direct it. The rest of the projects, director lang ako.”
