Customs officials, employees isasalang sa lifestyle check

BILANG na ang araw ng mga ‘biglang-yaman’ sa Bureau of Customs (BoC).

Sa press briefing kahapon sa Palasyo, inihayag ni Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, isasailalim sa lifestyle check , bubusisiin ang bank accounts at lahat ng ari-arian ng mga opisyal at kawani ng Customs upang masawata ang korupsiyon sa kawanihan.

Hihilingin aniya ng sangay ng Ehekutibo sa Lehislatura na amiyendahan ang Bank Secrecy Law upang magkaroon ng oportunidad ang gobyerno na imbestigahan ang bank accounts ng mga opisyal at kawaning sangkot sa katiwalian.

“We have to be smart about… we have to be smart about catching corrupt people. You cannot always catch them like, you know, playing cops and robbers. We have to catch them by going after checking their lifestyle, checking their bank accounts, checking how many cars they own, right? We have to do forensic analysis. That’s why part of our legislative agenda is to make sure that the lost, the privacy lost on bank accounts will allow the government to look into the bank accounts of people that have very strong evidence of corruption or tax evasion. If we do not do that, we can hardly catch them. So we are going to ask the legislature to please loosen up the… to allow the government to look into the bank accounts of people suspected of corruption, tax evasion, and crimes like that,” aniya.

Naniniwala si Dominguez, ang pagkakaroon nang mabuting ehemplo ng liderato ang susi upang matuldukan ang korupsiyon.

“We are like a river. If the source of the river is dirty, all of us will be dirty. So I think it has to start at the top. Good example at the top that people do not accept bribes or… are clean. I think the leadership factor is very important, number 1,” aniya.

Sinabi ni Dominguez, magtatalaga ng permanent Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence sa BoC kahapon makaraan isiwalat ni Pangulong Duterte na nais niyang ipatanggal kay Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon ang naturang opisyal na hindi binanggit ang pangalan.

“There was this story about the Deputy for Intelligence. I have yet to talk to Col. Faeldon. But I have instructed my aide to relay. I want him suspended out immediately. Suspended and out immediately. Kung ayaw niyang umalis sa Customs, ako ang magpapaalis sa kanya,” ayon sa Pangulo.

“There is no, there is only an OIC Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence. Intelligence ba ‘yun? Intelligence. There’s only an OIC right now. But a new OIC will be appointed actually today,” sabi ni Dominguez.

Pinalalayo sa droga
NBI TUTUTOK SA KORUPSIYON

INATASAN ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) na tutukan ang pag-iimbestiga sa graft and corruption.

Sinabi ng Pangulo kamakalawa ng gabi, gusto niya na ang trabahuhin muna ng NBI ay mga kaso na may kaugnayan sa korupsiyon imbes illegal drug cases.

“I want the NBI now to focus on graft and corruption. ‘Yun na lang muna trabaho nila,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Ikinuwento ng Pangulo, minsan nang nasangkot ang ilang taga-NBI sa pagkonsinti sa illegal drugs trade nang i-lipat sa kanilang kustodiya ang Bilibid 19 o ang high-profile inmates mula sa New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) na sabit sa illegal drugs trade sa pambansang piitan.

Nagbenta aniya ang ilang ahente ng NBI ng P50,000 kada cellphone sa Bilibid 19 para maipagpatuloy ang kalakaran nila ng illegal drugs.

“There was a time sa NBI na tinatanggal mo na nga sa police, inilalagay sa NBI para hindi makapag-communicate. And just to find out na pati sila pala, they were selling cellphones inside the NBI for about 500,000. Para lang makalaro ng droga ‘yung—So ayan trabaho ninyo. Mga NBI maghinto kayo riyan sa, umalis kayo riyan sa droga, umalis kayo riyan sa ano. Concentrate on graft and corruption sa gobyerno,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Noong nakaraang buwan ay sinampahan ng kasong illegal drug trading and trafficking si Sen. Leila de Lima at anim na iba pa kaugnay sa bentahan ng shabu sa NBP para makapangalap ng pondo sa senatorial bid ng noo’y justice secretary.
