BINUHAY ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Presidential Task Force Against Media Killings na dating Task Force Usig noong administrasyong Arroyo, nang lagdaan kahapon ang Administrative Order Number 1.
“The reason why the President wanted this administrative order or AO No. 1 is because he cares for you (media), for us. And he believes in the freedom of the press,” ayon kay Communications Secretary Martin Andanar sa press briefing kahapon sa Palasyo.
Tungkulin ng task force na imbestigahan ang mga paglabag sa “right to life, liberty, and security of the members of the press.”
Pamumunuan ang task force ng Secretary of Justice bilang chairman at Presidential Communications Office Secretary bilang co-chairman.
Miyembro ng task force ang Interior Secretary, National Defense Secretary, Solicitor General, executive director ng presidential human rights committee, chief-of-staff ng Armed Forces of the Philippines, director general ng Philippine National Police, at director ng National Bureau of Investigation.
Magsisilbing resource persons sa task force ang iba’t ibang media groups.
Ani Andanar, magkakaroon ng special oversight team na magmo-monitor sa development ng mga kaso laban sa mga kagawad ng media na nakararanas ng pagbabanta sa buhay o ano mang uri ng harrassment.
Bubuuin ang special oversight team ng mga imbestigador at mga prosecutor, bukod sa monitoring, oobligahin din ang special oversight team na regular na magre-report at magsusumite ng rekomendasyon sa task force.
Sa ngayon ayon kay Andanar, sa unang tatlumpong araw ng task force, magsasagawa ng imbentaryo ng mga kaso ng violence against media workers… kagagawan man ito ng state o non-state forces.
