HINDI masaya ang Estados Unidos sa mga pahayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ngunit hindi natatakot ang White House na magsalita at maging prangka hinggil dito.
Sa press briefing sa White House kamakalawa, sinabi ni Spokesperson John Kirby, hindi niya alam kung may direktang epekto sa relasyon ng dalawang bansa ang pinagsasasabi ni Duterte laban sa Amerika.
“I’m not aware that there’s been a tangible, practical effect on relations. I think, as I said, we haven’t been happy about everything we’ve heard and we haven’t been afraid to talk about that and to be frank about it,” ani Kirby.
Regular aniya ang komunikasyon ni US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg sa kanyang Philippine counterparts at iba pang opisyal ng gobyerno sa kabila ng “unhelpful comments” ni Duterte laban sa Amerika.
“I’m not aware that there’s a specific impact on communication. I mean, we have an ambassador there and he stays in touch daily with his Philippine counterparts and with government officials. As far as I know, that communication continues unabated. I think we’ve already talked about, from the podium, some of the unhelpful comments that were made by the president,” ani Kirby.
Bilang magkaalyado ay naging tapat at direkta aniya ang sagot ng US sa mga pahayag ni Duterte at naniniwala pa rin ang White House sa kahalagahan at pagpapatuloy ng bilateral relationship at mga komitment sa perspektibang panseguridad.
“We’ve been honest about that and forthright as friends and allies should do. But again, this is a – we still believe in the importance of this bilateral relationship. We still believe in the commitments we have from a security perspective under that alliance and we’re going to continue to meet those,” aniya.
Hindi muna aniya magbibigay ng ano mang komentaryo ang US kaugnay sa panawagan ni Duterte kamakalawa na umalis na ang tropang Amerikano sa Mindanao upang hindi maging biktima ng teroristang Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
Inihayag kamakalawa ni Duterte, nais niyang mawala sa Mindanao ang mga Amerikano para hindi sila maging target ng ASG dahil siguradong papatayin lang sila kapag binihag bunsod nang malaking galit sa paglapastangan ng US troops sa mga Moro noong Filipino-American War.
