Bank Security Chief planned P.2-M heist (Guards break down During questioning)
By Frenando Cariaso
THREE security guards of Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI) who robbed a client minutes after she withdrew P200,000 in cash from the bank’s Ayala branch last Friday, have admitted the participation of the bank’s security chief in the said heist, the Makati police reported yesterday.
Security guards Norberto Duzon, Jessico Deles and Gaspar Serna, all from Premium Security Agency, broke down during interrogation and pointed to one Guillermo Bontoyan, their Chief Security at the BPI, as the reported mastermind of the robbery, said Pfc Abner Afuang.
Afuang’s Group collared the three guards minutes after they grabbed the plastic bag filled with money of trader Violeta Cruz along Ayala Avenue last Friday afternoon.
AFUANG and his men, all belonging to the Special Task Force assigned to monitor Makati’s Commercial District, chanced upon Cruz who was then shouting for help as she chased three bank guards.
The three at first refused to reveal the person behind the robbery when the lawmen found that they were the guards assigned at the bank where Cruz withdrew the money.
Subsequent intense questioning on the three guards however led to their admission on the involvement of Bontoyan.
The guards said Bontoyan was the one who rushed them to change their uniform into civilian clothes after they were commanded to snatch the bag of Cruz.
The three also quoted Bontoyan as saying that he often observed Cruz withdrawing large amount of money without companion, adding she was an easy prey to robbery.
