“OWWA is part of the Crisis Management Team (CMT) composed of officials from the DFA and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The CMT continuously monitors the situation of countries experiencing crisis to ensure that our OFWs working there are safe. If immediate action is needed, the CMT automatically activates its committees to respond to the situation,” ani Calzado.
Sa ngayon, sa notebook ni Administrator Calzado, since 26 January 2015, there are 2,391 OFWs working in Yemen as nurses, household service workers (HSWs), supervisors, technicians, mechanics, engineers, among others.
Ang patuloy na gulo sa capital city of Sana’a ng mga Houthi rebels and the recent suspension of many embassies in the Yemeni capital were the basis for the DFA’s heightened alert level.
Kaya naman agad umapela at nakiusap ang OWWA sa mga kaanak ng OFWs in Yemen to convince their loved ones to come home.
On the record, dagdag ni Calzado, nitong taon 2011, OWWA assisted about 1,000 OFWs who returned from Yemen due to the political instability.
By the way, nakarating sa kaalaman natin na may malubhang karamdaman daw ang kabiyak ni Ma’am Rebecca kung kaya’t ‘di siya nakapagbibigay nang personal assistance sa repatriates.
Pero hindi rason ‘yan na ‘di bigyan ng pansin ng OWWA at aluhin sa kanilang kalungkutan ang umuuwing luhaang OFWs no matter what.
Ano sa palagay ninyo? Or else, turn over the post to another person na makapagbibigay ng panahon tulad ng ginawa noon nina former OWWA chief Wilhelm Soriano, Eli Gardiner at Carmelita Dimzon.
Think of it Madame Calzado!
