“Nobody likes pain. Nobody wants to experience trauma, and it can be difficult to acknowledge a past that left us feeling broken or insecure. 

“I’m a woman who was molested at a very young age and that was only one of the traumatic experiences that I’d have to find a way to grow from. I used the strength of my faith to help me heal, however in looking at the present my question is how can we protect our loved ones, especially our children and teenagers. 

“In thinking about this, one of the things I think we need to focus on is social media. So many of us love it and in fact it’s a good tool for helping our brands and businesses, but who we follow can affect us and what we post can affect other people. The things we see and post can trigger depression or even extreme envy to the point that a person will do anything to get the lifestyle they think they want. 

“Because of this it’s important to teach your children that they have value, that there’s nothing wrong with having nice things but that those things don’t, and shouldn’t define them. Fill them with love and acceptance so that they don’t feel the need to seek it elsewhere or in material things.”
