The sad news was announced by MOWELFUND president Boots Anson Rodrigo.
Ayon kay Boots, Mona Lisa dead in her sleep last Sunday, August 25. She was 97 years old.
Buong pahayag ni Boots: “Mowelfund announces the demise of its lifetime member, multi-awarded actress, Mona Lisa, who died in her sleep today, August 25, at the age of 97.
“Viewing starts August 26 at Loyola Memorial Chapels 1 and 2 in Sucat, Parañaque.
“Interment is on August 30 at 3pm.”
Si Mona Lisa, Gloria Lerma Yatco sa tunay na buhay, ay unang nakilala sa screen name na Fleur de Lis bago mag-World War II.
She was the first Filipina to have worn a bathing suit in a movie she did with LVN Pictures and this was in the movie Giliw Ko under LVN Pictures, where she shared stellar billing with Mila del Sol, Ely Ramos, and Fernando Poe Sr.
Some of her memorable movies are Insiang (1976), Itim (1976) bilang ina ni Charo Santos; Pagputi ng Uwak, Pag-itim ng Tagak (1978), na gumanap siyang ina ni Bembol Roco; at Cain At Abel (1982) bilang ina nina Christopher de Leon at Phillip Salvador.
Dahil sa kanyang mahusay na pagganap sa Insiang, itinanghal na Best Actress si Mona Lisa sa FAMAS at Gawad Urian noong 1977.
